I've no issue with the outcome but I suppose the question should really be whether he poses a credible Covid risk. If he doesn't, it's just another stupid decision. Border quarantine restrictions should be based on risk, without fear or favour. Unfortunately, some Premiers seem to be caught up in a competition as to who can be the most hard nosed, simply because the electorate loves it.
I find it genuinely pathetic to use emergency powers to bolster personal popularity. Perhaps we need a constitutional amendment that any leader who invokes emergency powers is automatically barred from re-election? Possibly, to be fair, barred for five years, not life. Give the electorate a chance to reflect.

I think everyone on this forum would find such behaviour it deplorable and despicable. I don't think that has occurred just yet as the Premier's can point to various reasons why their hard borders and no compassion are appropriate. But goalpost shifting for vaccinating groups that are not vaccinated anywhere in the world is trending very much in the direction you outline.

I'd really like to agree but the cynical side of me says nah. There's a reason why any political discussion in this forum is instantly quelled. The reason being that the whole issue is so politicised that any discussion will turn messy faster than Covid can jump a supermarket aisle.

@nutwood you must have been reading the Tassie papers this morning.A few letters urging the Premier to keep Tassie borders closed even if 80% vaccinations reached and lambasting opening our International borders.Pathetic isn't it.

Sadly, we have always been a very xenophobic country. This pandemic has given Joe Average state sanctioned permission to hate on those who are different from them (be it from a different country, different state or different LGA). That’s going to be something that is extremely difficult to reverse.

There's stories on some Front Pages tomorrow about a 3 year old boy who went to visit his grandparents on a cattle station and can't get back to QLD to his parents who he hasn't seen in 2 months.

There's also stories about QLD and WA Premiers planning to keep state borders closed. The QLD Premier wants kids to be vaccinated before reopening state borders.

I think this is a lot of bluff by AP and her ample spin staff. She effectively blamed the NRL decision on the CHO (thus rewriting Westminster ministerial responsibility - but that's another whole discussion). CHO gets booted upstairs soon and I'm beginning to think that she'll pivot at that point - which will coincide with millions of non-AZ doses being available.

I wonder if our new CHO will be such a AP/Pfizer lap dog though and accept all the blame for the cough that is going on up here…. ? Surely not….?

I could be wrong, bit did not the former federal CHO "get booted upstairs" to become Secretary of federal DoH?

That is correct

Correct.

Edit: There's an echo here today..!

My recollection was the "promotion" was already announced before covid hit, so in light of the approaching pandemic they deferred the announced date of promotion.

I think that was already planned before COVID but was delayed due to it though which is very different.
Snap - missed your reply.

The most extraordinary thing about the McGuire application is that he’d originally applied for him + his production team and then scaled the application back to him and his sons.

Am definitely Team Noone here.

I think his sons are also able to do production?

Certainly he said on TV that his sons are employed and producers on various shows.

What is the point re Vic/NSW border??? Rhetorical rant...
Not rhetorical at all. With the policy positions of Dan and Gladys getting closer and closer just what purpose is served by making the border bubble even more difficult? There must be some Vic politics at play that I don’t understand.
