Australian state border restrictions

'Internal documents have revealed just how short staffed WA's health system really is... a "desperate need" in ICU'

WA is hopelessly unprepared for a major COVID outbreak despite having 18 months to prepare for one. This has to be a major part of why Labor in WA is keeping their borders shut.
"WA is hopelessly unprepared for a major COVID outbreak " NOT just Covid !! When we were in WA and the cyclone hit, Geraldton was without power for over 5 days !!! The city came to a standstill. NOTHING could open !! It is not like cyclones are a once in a blue moon - you know they are coming !! What is your crazy Premier spending the money on, certainly not infrastructure or hospitals !!!

Covid - underprepared definitely no excuses.

However RE the cyclone, Geraldton hasnt had a cyclone since 1956 and nothing of Seroja’s intensity has ever been recorded that far south - its not built to code. The power cables were brought down in an area 700 X 150km wide - it will take time. Power was out in the Dandenong Ranges for 3 weeks because of a storm there. Its nothing new.

Except the cyclone passed Geraldton to the North.A cyclone hitting the west coast has the highest wind velocities to the north of the system and much lower speeds to the south. We were in Geraldton when the cyclone came through. The wind speed for the hours before, during and after it made landfall were nothing to previous Category 1 cyclones we have experienced or even the last 2 tropical storms in 2019.One in Fiji and 1 in Nova Scotia -and they hadn't had one for nearly 100 years.
Yet the lines to the south of Geraldton went down.Suggests a lack of maintenance.

Back to borders...

NT not likely to open before Xmas either

This is about to get very interesting for the tourism industry. Not that many people want to go to the NT in December (too hot/humid) but airlines make a lot of domestic profits at that time of year. There's going to be a lot of grumpy people who are posted up north unable to visit their families down south too (e.g. ADF).

Ask the WA treasurer… oh… wait 😂

But on borders I wish the minor states would stop screeching and bleating in the media to try and look tough and instead put that energy into actually vaccinating their population so we can have all borders open for Christmas!

There's a reason WA and QLD are behaving the way they are...

That makes me so angry, we haven't seen my dad since Master TC was three days old, and bub hasn't even met his other grandpa.
I feel for you @blackcat20. Your situation is worse than ours, but Mr Seat 0A would have liked to see Seat Son who is locked out of the country and who we haven't seen now for almost 2 years. We were lucky to be able to see Seat Daughter here in Canberra after they relaxed the rules to allow households to meet for 2 hours outdoors, wearing masks and socially distanced. Luckily, Seat Granddaughter, aged 11 months, does not know the rules and happily crawled between us all.

Hey QLD just might calm down, AP has a new boyfriend !! o_Oo_O

"Queensland Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk has revealed she has a new boyfriend in Brisbane surgeon Reza Adib."
IMHO: More appalling behaviour on the part of Murdoch press. Who politicians are dating is of no concern to the public unless it involves corruption or affects their political activities.

I used to think like that. But frankly the politicians have managed to insert themselves in to my every thought and every aspect of my life, so I don't really care who follows them around with a camera intruding on their privacy or writing gossip columns.

I just heard that our Prime minister "had" to fly to Sydney on the weekend in the VIP jet for a meeting (that was canceled). No quarantining and then posts pictures of he and his family together for father's day.
Not a good look when so many others could not see there fathers who were only in the next LGA but more than 5k away. Or on the Tweed border or anywhere else in lockdown.
So out of touch with the everyday people.
Wow, someones goes back to their home for the weekend before getting an exemption to return to work which is allowed. Not sure what you expect out of someone but I see no issue for those who need to travel for work.

The optics of this are appalling and I agree he should not have done it. However, I think some clarity is needed.

Where was the PM supposed to quarantine? I don't believe NSW requires it. I don't know about the ACT but I doubt it. As a resident of NSW, I don't believe he required permission to return to NSW from the ACT, only an exemption to go to the ACT from NSW, which I understand he was granted.

Strip away the fact he's the PM, he's an essential worker (jokes aside) so he was rightly granted permission to go more than a few kilometres from Kirribilli House and to enter the ACT. I'd bet my last FF point that there's been plenty of other Sundays in the past 11 weeks of the Sydney lockdown that he's been in NSW rather than the ACT. This one happened to be Fathers' Day which was red rag to a bull for the bottom of the barrel media we have in Australia.

The photo posted to Instagram with his wife and two children was not taken on Fathers' Day.

As for the government jet, he's entitled to it.

In my opinion, he should have stayed in Canberra on this one solitary Sunday, yes because of the optics and to show some solidarity with tens of thousands of others but more so because the media was always going to beat it up and because so many Australians were equally always going to just shake their heads and swallow it whole.

With last week being my supposed Hamilton Island holiday which was cancelled, what are my chances of being a toolie for my next booking mid-Nov MEL-OOL?

Schoolies will start on November 20, so if you can go before then, do it.

I think your rating is likely to be spot on.
