Australian state border restrictions

After watching him stumble through that mess, I’m now 100% they will be forced to open domestically pre-Xmas. Watch this space and mark this post.

At current trajectory and looking at their back of a sizzler restaurant napkin ‘plan’, they should open just after New Years and what miss Christmas by a few days? Not going to happen….

Oh I did. Not the one he’s expecting that’s for sure. Sent to all my WA family who are doing similar ones. Vomits.

Dang.. I had marked that post and watched that space. Still 100% sure WA will be forced to open domestically pre-Xmas?

Sadly many countries, eg UK until this last July although its opening up in recent times. Christmas last year was a very solitary household event for everyone in UK.

No, it was only a solitary event for those who happen to be single. Another of the ‘great forgotten’ in this ongoing saga.

Mrs FB and I resemble that remark. While we may not be single i.e. each of us alone, it was just as miserable.

If Western Australian residents are unable to travel overseas later this year when the people of other states are doing so, I'm sure Mr McGowan will feel the force of his people to change his stance.
But what can they actually do about it? He was just voted in, and Liberal WA is a mess.

He can dictate all he likes and dismiss any rebellion/demonstration/protest. He will just 'Crush & Kill' them.

Yup. Just a lot of deflection to the public health disaster in WA courtesy of not funding WA Health for years and talking tough to look try and look…good?

The only thing that would change my mind if is WA’s spluttering vaccination program slows even further for some reason…

What really needs to happen is that WA needs to ask for HELP, either from other states or the Feds. They are in a massive mess. That is the real story. I just don’t know who has the resources to try and help right now….

The Honourable Mr McGowan of Western Australia has walked back on another aspect of the national plan, as his 80% vaccination target will include 12+ not 16+ per the national agreement/Doherty modelling.
The whole focus on % is totally artificial, so I suppose he's just adding his own little twist. Re-opening should be based on careful analysis of where the vaccination program is at. When I say careful, I mean no politician allowed within a mile of it.
It's who's vaccinated, not the total numbers. On a national level, you could have 80% of the population vaccinated without jabbing a single WA arm. The same principle applies on the local level.

Couldn't agree more. Last Christmas we both said to ourselves we will never go through this again. Unfortunately it's looking like we will have to one more time.

Equally though it’s not fair the rest of Australia should be punished because WA (and arguably QLD but I do have faith we will get scared soon and race to vaccinate) is completely fluffing their vaccine rollout.

We ignored the U.K. christmas restrictions for this reason and so did almost everyone else we knew who was able. We tested and isolated before meeting but there was no way we were leaving elderly relatives to themselves on Christmas Day.

I didn't intend to start a competition to see who could be the most miserable. My point was simply that there are many, many, people who would have been totally alone. No spouse, significant or not so significant other. They are of all ages and circumstances. And they seem pretty much forgotten.

It has come to my attention that Donald Horne predicted the abilities of today's politicians nearly 60 years ago. That is no different to then.
Australia is a lucky country run mainly by second rate people who share its luck. It lives on other people's ideas, and, although its ordinary people are adaptable, most of its leaders (in all fields) so lack curiosity about the events that surround them that they are often taken by surprise.

This has to be the moment border controls 'jumped the shark'. There is a lot of evidence around that the governments have lost the willing compliance of a significant portion of the populace.
Certainly seems that way at that part of the border. I'm surprised this was allowed to happen though.

I doubt it. If you're not affected by the current restrictions, then you're not affected. That is most people.

The people that are affected by the current state of affairs are too small in number to effect any change.
