Australian state border restrictions

The Police are in a no win situation. Use implements of force and they are seen as over handed brutes or do as they did yesterday and have a dozen officers sustain injuries.
Interesting video of a woman (apparently fairly elderly) being shoved to the ground by one policeman, and then pepper sprayed by another whilst down. Then they moved on, seemingly not caring about what they may have just done.

Subduing someone committing an illegal act? I don’t know, haven’t seen whatever video you are referring to.

The police tactics were questionable at various times. The protest was actually rather peaceful until the police cornered the group in a narrow gulley without an escape path and formed a police line on either side with innocent motorists stuck in the middle.

I understand why. But they were caught out and on the back foot the entire time by a rag tag bunch it must be said.

I did just see this article.

I’m liking the way Dan Andrew’s is talking about case numbers.

Keeps saying ‘the inevitable increase in case numbers’ - I hope that it’s sinking in for some people…. it’s here to stay kids! Stay and spread. Everywhere!
He gets zero credit for sounding realistic after stealing the last eighteen months of my children's lives and mine.

I just looked at the video and subduing someone performing an illegal act is not how I descibe it.The woman was standing in the middle of the road as police passed her.One slung out his arm in a great head high tackle. She went down hitting her head on the ground and not moving. The next policeman passing her bent down and sprayed her face with capsicum spray -she was definitely not resisting.Disgraceful no matter what the issue.

It has been reported that the woman was a press photographer for The Age. Not sure how that impact the definition of "performing an illegal act" under these circumstances.

[Edit} It appears the reporting has changed slightly and that the woman involved is not the reporter, but Age Reporter was nearby and impacted.

The Age photographer in the article is one of the guys in the video (possibly the one holding an SLR).

Courier Mail is reporting Queensland won’t open until 90% double jabbed:

The Courier Mail understands Cabinet has endorsed the 90 per cent threshold, after premier Annastacia Palaszczuk and WA refused to sign up to the national cabinet deal of 80 per cent.

Despite NSW and Victoria outlining a road map to opening up, based on an 80 per cent double vaccination rate, Queensland is yet to commit to any blueprint for going forward, even with the population likely to hit 80 per cent double jabs by December 5.

The decision on 90 per cent vaccination rates is being driven by Labor polling which shows Queenslanders don’t want to be opened up if it means a mass Delta variant outbreak, like NSW and Victoria.

Tourism industry leaders are incensed at the prospect of Queensland being closed for the Christmas-New Year holidays.

QLD Cabinet sources have told Sky News that 90% is likely to be the benchmark now.

Sky News also discussed this with Peter Gleeson the Queensland Editor of Sky News (Peter Gleeson does also write for News Corp such as the Courier Mail so they could have the same sources)

Peter Gleeson is on the ground in QLD and he is skeptical whether 90% is even achievable especially for a number of LGAs in South Eastern Queensland with terribly low vaccination rates.

A) QLDers can't complain, they knew what they were getting when they voted her back in.
B) No chance in hell QLD will get to 90% of 16+ double dose vaxxed.

Tourism industry being slightly untruthful there. School holidays atm and most tourist places are nearly or fully booked out.
Slightly tounge in cheek but Queensland holiday locations are for Queenslanders

I think it depends who you ask. The locations and price range of properties used by locals can be quite different to interstate and international.

Eg, maybe 80% of rooms are sold in the Gold Coast - but most of the high end rooms in Surfers / Broadbeach are vacant (I did look and plenty of rooms available this week at Peppers and Hilton SP - at reasonable prices).

I'm now staring down the barrel of going OS for Christmas instead of spending it with my immediate family in QLD. How ridiculous.

As soon as school hols are over back to single digit occupancy so they have every right to be furious
I am really not sure that is happening. Queenslanders have very options so are travelling internally. Where I am ATM no vacancy until 6 March. Both places where I have stayed in the past week have said as soon as they get a cancellation it is filled. One is managing a waiting list.

Even in the NRL that would be a straight send off.
