Australian state border restrictions

If FNQ isn’t opened for travel IMMEDIATELY NOW then the peak season will be over before NSW and Vic can visit. Between mid-October and about April my only reason to go to FNQ would be a status run rather than have a holiday and I presume many others would feel the same.
Yes, even with the 90% fake news, FNQ won't be as popular over summer.

Straight out of the Malcolm Tucker handbook.....
Slightly OT, but political “market testing” has been around for decades. Recall all those pre-budget “leaked details” that don’t see the light of day on budget night….

Gold Coast Bulletin - "Open up at 80 or Face an 'Abyss'" - "A Gold Coast tourism boss is urging the Queensland Government to stick to a National Cabinet deal to reopen borders once 80% fo people are vaccinated for Covid. Destination Gold Coast chairman Paul Donovan's plea comes as its merged on Monday Queensland may not reopen to Australia until it hits a 90% vaccination rate"

I'm sitting in Brisbane musing on the madness of it all. Coming from Tasmania, I carefully checked that I was ok to get home. All good, only specific high risk areas. Didn't think to look at SA and of course, I'm heading home via a job in Adelaide and SA have taken a broad brush approach to all of Brisbane. It's a full time job keeping up with this stuff!
Also admiring yet another check in app on my phone. That's four so far, all doing the same thing slightly differently!

I have got my fingers and toes crossed that I will fly into LST on Thursday !! Not being able to do the entry pass until 24 hours before makes me nervous !!!

WA is actually worse than QLD by what I’ve heard from my uncles business, especially in Perth city.
Anecdotal, as I've been in two Perth CBD hotels over the last month and overnighted down in Margaret River last weekend.

The hotel in West Perth was dead midweek, I think I saw one other guest.

The Northbridge hotel was busier on a Friday night, breakfast the following morning probably 50% of tables full.

Forrest / Bussell Hwy (to/from Perth <> Margaret River, Busselton etc) were busy, with the cafes and petrol stations looking reasonably packed (school holidays still a week away). But I agree with the sentiment about locals spending less. I visited one cafe on the way up and back, but otherwise ate at my accommodation as opposed to going out for dinner, had no inclination to go retail shopping, etc.

I suspect it was purposly "leaked" to test the waters to see if such policy might be worth pursuing. Reaction was such that the consideration was withdrawn.
I expect they are focus grouping 85% now. Janastasia will want something higher than 80% so they can run the line that they are keeping Queenslanders safer than the Federal or NSW Govt.

It would seem just as difficult to do 80% for each region/local health district/hospital and health service like NT.

It's 12+ by stealth.

When are you flying to Adelaide? Testing requirements for Brisbane arrivals lift on Saturday

I stopped by for a coffee in a West Perth hotel recently. They said mid-week was really quiet as there just weren't interstate visitors. And as many of the professionals (engineers, accountants, etc) that work in the area were working from home, they weren't getting much in the way of people dropping on for coffee, a bite eat, etc....

Rex announces plan to become Australia's first airline to fully vaccinate frontline staff by November 1

Regional Aussie airline Rex says COVID vaccinations will be mandatory for employees working at check-in, as well as all pilots and cabin crew.

Deputy chairman John Sharp said about 90 per cent of the workforce had received jabs voluntarily ahead of the deadline, which he described as an "extraordinary response" and "well above the national average".

Qantas and Virgin Australia have set a November 15 deadline for their frontline staff.
