Australian state border restrictions

Well we may not be able to travel anywhere interstate or overseas till after November 15 anyway, but still it's good that they are all planning for reopening.

A cynical person would think that they deliberately leaked a 90% target so that they could then come out and publicly deny it.
…never been done before 🤦🏽‍♀️ of course… not even an ambit claim really as probably no real strategy behind it.…
anyway I truly believe I’ll be in Europe before WAQ-ville (WA &QLD) so no longer follow.
My thoughts are - however - with the AFF community who have family/friends/business/life affected by the uncertainties surrounding threshold entry points to these states. Many people really hurting.
Of course - I will have to wait until the protesting tradies get off the freeway to drive to Tullamarine airport…. but that’s a few months away yet….

We'll have to see I guess where SA stands in a month or two. A lot can change in that time.

Question:

I had a flight booked from Melbourne to Cairns on Qantas, departing on Nov 17th 2021.

Yesterday I received an email informing me that my flight had been changed, moved forward by nearly a month.

Don't quite understand why this has happened as Vic (the slowest state in Aus) are projected to hit 80pc on Nov 5th.

When I was looking at alternate flights for the change, there are multiple indirect flights on 16th Nov.
Is this a case of QF cancelling direct MEL-CNS flights, or is it because the QLD border will still be closed.

It doesn't quite make sense to me because you can go indirect on the 16th and can still book the original MEL-CNS flight on 17/11 on QF website.

Also, I tried to select one of the indirect flights via BNE (MEL-BNE BNE-CNS) but it wouldn't let me.

There was no explanation that came with the email.

Any help would be much appreciated.

Cheers.

Qantas has cancelled your original flight, so you can request a refund if you're not happy with the alternative offered. Or request a different alternative. May need to call or message them on social media if refund is not offered online.

As it's a Qantas thing, I'd suggest there's no rational explanation. Best bet is get on the phone and ask what's going on. Pick a time of day that'll get you sensible answers. First thing in the morning used to work for me.
It could be as simple as they altered the original departure time to be 30 minutes later and the diligent computer looked at the situation and found you an earlier flight, so as not to get you to your destination late. The fact that it was a month earlier wouldn't have bothered it!

Yesterday, I had a similar situation, with notification that a domestic flight had been moved from late Octoher to mid-December.
It seems to be a random glitch of some sort.
At this stage, I am adopting a wait & see approach. When things are clearer, re State borders - if ever that happens - I will follow up and sort it out.
As a safety measure, I may email, just for the record. But the original booking details will be in file, so the changes will be clearly shown, down the track.

Well there is some easing of restrictions on returning to Victoria from Sydney coming soon for the fully vaccinated, though 14 days in quarantine at home will be required.

Soon NSW will have fewer cases per day than Victoria on their current trajectory... quarantine seems unnecessary (just like international hotel quarantine).

But NSW cases will do a massive u turn and head back up as soon as restrictions ease and Victoria’s will accelerate further too so to your point who really cares.

About time! It is shameful that people have been locked out of their homes, jobs, lives for so long. That never should have happened. Plus I agree with @antycbr that there is no justification at all for making these poor people quarantine for 14 days. Although if that's the price of getting home, I bet they will be glad to pay it.

Victorian average has been over 500 for 4 days - no talk of WA declaring them an extreme risk.

I think the restrictions like vaccinated only, must pass a Covid test prior to departing and the 14 days home quarantine is just Dan's way of preserving the fiction that somehow NSW is completely out of control and Vic isn't. One of Dan's favourite quotes is ''ótherwise this outbreak will get away from us''. On any measure it clearly has.
