Australian state border restrictions

Quick Question - flying into MEL on 31/10 and returning to CBR on 01/11 (this weekend). Do I need to do a test before travel or is it sufficient if I get a Orange Zone permit from Service Victoria

…however I think you’re main problem will be the sh-t show after the lightening/rain/that affected most of Melbourne last night/early morning not the least of which is Melb airport. Keep up with SES Vic / Melb Airport websites…
it’s our first weekend out of Melb with trip to regions.
Its not just the 4Horsemen of the Apocalypse in Melb but their horses have dumped everywhere.

What will the rule be for entering NSW from VIC after 01/11? Qantas has delayed the start date of the MEL-DRW-LHR flight so they will put me on MEL-SYD-DRW-LHR instead, do I need to do a PCR test to enter NSW?

So after 1st of November, we are free to enter NSW from VIC as long as we have the vaccination certificate? Is a PCR test needed for entry?

I'm not an expert on this but I didn't see a requirement for a PCR test currently? International arrivals into SYD will require a PCR test, but I didn't see any equivalent for domestic arrivals. The current restrictions seem to be around following public health orders and stay at home rules if you have come from an area of concern.

Hi All,

Hope you're all having a good evening.

Question:

I live in Melbourne and was due to fly to CNS on Nov 17. Ofcourse this was changed to December 17 due to border restrictions roadmap introduced by QLD that says the following when QLD hits 80% fully vax.

Arriving from a hotspot
----------------------------------

If you have been in a declared hotspot in the past 14 days you may travel to Queensland provided you:

1. are fully vaccinated
2. have a negative COVID-19 test taken within the 72 hours prior to arrival into Queensland.
You may arrive by air or road.

The following is an excerpt of an article in yesterday's courier Mail, titled "Festive fizzer: Qld’s Hard border to continue past Christmas."

"Deputy Premier Steven Miles has dropped a festive bombshell in confirming for the first time that Qld’s hard border and police checkpoints will stay in place until at least early next year."

"Scrambling to explain the loss of Queensland's anointed new Chief Health Officer, Deputy Premier Steven Miles has revealed the hard border will not ease until January at the earliest, not December as many believed following the release of a plan to reunite families for Christmas."

"Speaking at a press conference today, Mr Miles said hard border barricades and checkpoints would not be removed until the state's vaccination rates hit 90%, which is not predicted until early next year."

"It means that southern holidaymakers and border community residents face more lengthy traffic jams over the peak holiday season."

-----_--------------------------------------------------------------------

Here's the Question:

According to a graphic in the courier Mail, and the QLD health website, it still says 80% IE Dec 17.

Is Miles talking about the road checkpoints or is he now saying that I won't be able to fly into QLD without having to Quarantine until QLD is 90% vaccinated? (As opposed to 80pc , no HQ.) I'm fully vaccinated by the way.

Thanks.

Hi

It looks as though PCR and vax is what is required.

Declared hotspot is legally declared by the Commonwealth Medical Officer on the health.gov.au
All of Melbourne is still a hotspot - and therefore my reading is as above.

Bearing in mind what’s today’s advice may change tomorrow. Although delaying the date of your departure will probably work for you (as more ppl vaxed and families/tourists start bashing down the gates to Qld).

good luck

His comments were about checkpoints on the border. The 17th date is fixed - it was just a matter of whether there’d be police on the border and airports to check that you have met the requirements. It will still be open. But expect lengthy delays if driving.

Simple. Avoid all the uncertainty of Dr Miles and go to Fiji. Where you’ll be welcome.

Looks like the media has almost caught onto the AFF coined ‘Christmas Alliance’ @MooTime when discussing border restrictions! But going down the ‘grinch’ angle instead for WA and NT 😂

——

Paranoid premiers club drops to two members: WA's Mark McGowan and NT leader are the lone grinches as South Australia promises to open its borders to the whole country for Christmas

South Australia became the latest state to confirm a date to throw open its doors to visitors again, with vaccinated travellers welcome from November 23.

And it means a happy Christmas is ahead with much-needed summer holidays and overdue interstate family reunions for visitors from NSW, Victoria, and ACT.

But it leaves WA Premier Mark McGowan and NT First Minister Michael Gunner looking like the grinches who cancelled Christmas for their voters.

I'm quite confused about the requirements for entering Queensland having returned from an international flight - spent 15 days in NSW - then driving across the border (after 17th December - 80% double vax). The website says: "
  • have undertaken the Queensland-specified period of quarantine under the direction of another state or territory at home or in a government-nominated facility.
I don't think NSW will be in the business of providing direction of quarantine for those subsequently returning to Queensland. So does that mean I can't reenter Queensland - or simply say I haven't been overseas in the last 14 days? Or does one say I was under the direction of the state of NSW?
That dotpoint is under “if you have been overseas in the last 14 days”. If you spent the last 15 days in NSW, it doesn’t apply. I’m doing the 15 days holiday in NSW + Dec 17 entry when I return, and many others are as well. It’s fast becoming the preferred quarantine free way of travel from overseas into Qld.

BTW did a poll on the FB “stuck overseas” group and it’s pretty clear that the travel cap reductions into Qld have been continued throughout Nov and Dec with one boxing day cancellation reported. Another 4,000 or so overseas returnees added to the 13,000 waiting to return from down South.

I knew NSW tourism was going to go crazy but demand for AirBnBs for 14 days must be about to go off the chart with Queenslanders circumventing their states policy. Not a good time to have shares in Brisbane Airport.

Two weeks in an AirBnB of your choice or “The Governor Jeanette Young Quarantine Centre, Toowoomba”

Dont forget to add the extra costs of Fiji =
:All travellers who visit Fiji will need to stay at Care Fiji Commitment (fiji.travel) accommodation within the first three days of arriving in the country. They will need to supply a negative PCR test 72 hours before departure (about FJD$350 or AUD$225 a person), as well as documented proof of their confirmed three-night CFC booking before the flight and download the careFIJI app. Once they’ve arrived in Fiji, travellers will need to take a mandatory Rapid Covid-19 test at their resort 48 hours after arriving (around FJD$35 or $22 per person). You will also need additional testing before boarding your flight back home to Australia, and again, this will be an additional cost of $225 per person.
That’s a total of $472 + in testing fees per person.

Good thing I got an excellent deal on the resort which will more than offset compared to Queensland.

Yeah :( There's a bit of savings - about $75 - with the PCR test in Australia, but still comes in just under $400 for tests. The Fiji government is providing full board however for all hotel packages, which are automatically 'CFC approved'. A seven night package at the Sofitel Resort Fiji including flights, all meals, transfers and tests would be $1500 per person. You'd be hard pressed to get that sort of value going to QLD?

I think already. Flying to BNK on arrival to meet Mrs Pineapple who is driving down. There is not much availability and no bargains, like it's already Christmas Holidays. Border zone appears to be going gangbusters.

Oh it’s going to spill over into the GC any day again 😂
