Australian state border restrictions

At dinner tonight in Lonnie we were sitting beside 2 older women. One was saying how they should be stopping people coming in from QLD as lots of people going there from Sydney and Melbourne and then flying to Tassie.I nearly told her we were from QLD but didn't want to scare her.

You should have. I like being a s*** stirrer. I would want to find out her source of this info.

I would have mock coughed and said wow this Gold Coast flu is really getting me down 😂

Let’s just be thankful if it’s written in legible English…. Set your expectations very low because I suspect a lot more political garbage is on the way…

I still have a faint glimmer of hope for Xmas given the turning tide of polls in WA on border openings - but it is VERY faint!

Do dates require day, month and year. Or will just year, decade, century do?

Won't it be what we already know, just on paper.

I think, if Syd/Mel opening was going to be brought forward, he wouldn't have said 'next year' again today (below's quote in the context of thinking a few hundred mil is going to fix our hospital problems):

"This more than caters for what we expect will be the demand from COVID when it gets here some time next year."

Today, I am thinking this is optimistic. I give it a week before someone travels via Qld, Tas, SA or the NT having been in Syd/Mel less than 14 days before.

Like most other plans over the last year, it will be a nice looking brochure.

You guys got brochures?!?! All I saw was SmartArt in PowerPoint slides that really could have done with an extra half an hour of layout improvements.

That is seriously advanced doona brigade stuff. I've seen similar in Qld too, there is still plenty of it out there.
It actually got worse.they then talked about a male friend of theirs who got remarried. His new wife believes the vaccines continue to emit radio activity waves so she won't let anyone into the house who has been vaxxed. So the fellow is not allowed to have his children or grandkids over as they are vaxxed.

Hope he got a pre-nup

I'd be interested to know how you perceive Tasmanian business at present? I only see the same people, but you, by job definition, are contacting across the board.
From my perspective, everyone I deal with is stressed out because they are way too busy. I needed a minor job done today, went to my usual business and they had a sign out, basically "coughk off, I'm full". Fortunately they accepted my wafer, but it's hardly a sign of an economy doing it tough!
My thought is that with the whole international business system messed up, a lot more activity is happening closer to home.
I think that Tasmanian hospitality businesses suffered a lot during 2020.Some of our favourite restaurants have gone.Even the Riviera hotel in Beauty Point is closed still. You have to wonder if it will ever open.

however those businesses that survived are mostly doing well.Probably because a much better than average winter season. Then restaurants were complaining that they couldn't get staff. Now not as busy and most seem well staffed and only 1 in the last month has had a sign up wanting staff.

I have had a sparky as a patient as well as a plumber who was the partner of a patient. They both were complaining about being too busy.A couple of days ago went to Bunnings.Definitely no social distancing as it was packed. This week I look out at the Tamar and see the Bunnings car park -Invermay branch. When i get up ~ 6.30 that car park is nearly full.
So I agree most businesses don't appear to be doing it tough.

VIC has declared all remaining Orange Zones in NSW and ACT to become Green Zones from 11:59pm tonight.
LIKE

Booked straight away to go check out Coffs Harbour. Previously unable to travel as essential worker and can't wait test result without taking additional time off (extremely difficult at the moment...).

MEL-CFS-MEL with dormant VA travel bank. $105 each way and free Platinum upgrade to Business used on both flights as well...super value. Something to look forward to in a couple weeks!

I like that it was a joint media release from the two premiers. Almost like two states have decided to join each other as a federation.

Will the other 4 states and 2 territories join?

Tourism in Tassie is down 58% ($) so that would explain closed restaurants, hotels you mention. A lot of ‘experience’ led operators decimated - tours, boating ops etc. stuff locals wouldn’t do I suppose.

Interesting as my parents live in Beaconsfield... yes we have wondered the same thing, after enormous expense fixing up the Riviera.

Fortunately the Rosevears Hotel is going from strength to strength. Also, Holm Oak still ships to the covid-riddled states.

(super local references here!)

Pity the food is still a bit average there such a nice location.

Same, heading to the big banana early December.
Alas I just paid for J seats on VA, maybe one of the last to use the CRV59 code so tick over $200, 80SC, I see value.
Yes I noticed when searching that the code no longer worked - first thought was to pay for VA Business but this was a much better deal in the end. QF wanted over $450 in economy. Ha, ha. My QF SG will be disappearing as quickly as it arrived for me...

Bain really have made paid J quite tempting with their new fare structures. While it's not as amazing as the old Borghetti J, it's still pretty good value.

We don't mind the Waterfront hotel at Beauty Point now for a Sunday lunch.
The Rosevears hotel had OK food but the last occasion there were at least a dozen dead blowflys around the table I was shown to with at least that many still flying so I'm not going back.

The restaurants that stayed open for most of the official first lockdown with takeaways are mostly doing very well with a few actually increasing their business.

Agree - honestly if they just fixed up their international partnership situation they would be back as a serious contender for the more price conscious people who don’t want to fly Jetstar.
