Australian state border restrictions

ABC mentions the SA LGA rule:

For the state's new rules (that kick in from November 23), quarantine will continue to apply to travellers from LGAs with community transmission and less than 80 per cent fully vaccinated.

That low vaccine rate currently includes Melbourne and Sydney City LGAs.

SA's chief health officer Nicola Spurrier said today those LGAs "can come in but will do a seven-day quarantine."

She also said there was some concern around the numbers, saying: "Melbourne in particular we were concerned some of the data may be inaccurate to do with the denominator (the population size)."

Sydney LGA denominator is also known to be wrong due to large number of unoccupied high rises plus all that empty student accommodation around Haymarket and Ultimo. It is about time the Census guys hands are forced to early release accurate population data.

Ah too much too worry about really.

Yep and inconsistent with other states where you were allowed to get a Uber or Taxi home from the airport during their home quarantine trials.

One final hurdle for those poor Queensland residents trying to get home.
Who dreams this stuff up? I presume the two hours is based on the idea that no-one should drive more than two hours without a break but it doesn't make a lot of sense. Why not make a stipulation such as "drive directly to place of quarantine" and leave it at that. If people are going to go for a coffee on the way home, the distance is irrelevant.

One final hurdle for those poor Queensland residents trying to get home.
Swings and roundabouts in the shifting sands of Qld Govt advice. The two hour rule for maximum travel to home quarantine was mentioned when home quarantine was first foreshadowed, but then they came out with advice that only travel to home quarantine in certain LGAs would be permitted. Gold Coast and Moreton Bay was announced as in and Somerset where I live was announced as out. This meant that you could home quarantine in Coolangatta, 2 h 20 mins away from BNE, but not my place, 1 h 10 mins away. It was one of the things I ranted to my local member about and who knows, the rant may have done some good.

The no taxis or rideshares is a right royal PITA. Yeah they say I can get a contactless rental car from BNE home, but how do you get the rental car back, if you don't want a 14 day hire? Mrs Pineapple could drive it back, but can't show her licence if I rented it. And she'd have to get back somehow, where we have no public transport. She could quarantine, but why should she if I stay in our separate self contained apartment downstairs, with its own entrance.

Don't feel sorry for me, I'm waiting in NSW till 17 Dec and wearing the extra COVID-19 test before returning home. I don't expect too much clarity until about the day that starts. A small price for freedom. :)

one way hire car?

Hire car is in the same category as rideshare and taxi I suspect. One way rental doesn't work because it's 50 km to the nearest depot and you have to proceed direct to quarantine and stay there. Unless you want to pay for 14 days hire.

Another not thought through directive methinks!

Is it allowed for your wife to park your car the day before at the airport and get a lift home with a friend then take a photo where its parked and you come out and drive it home? (don't forget to take keys!)

About the only viable way to get home would be to have someone else drive a car to the airport and park. Then toss you the keys from a safe distance so you can drive home, and they then use another means of transport home (taxi, ride-share, friend, another relative, public transport).

In the good old days valet parking worked for this sort of thing. couple of times I would drive to the airport to get a flight, drop the keys at valet, Mrs Pineapple would arrive off another flight and pick up the keys. but no valet in BNE now and especially no contactless valet.

one also wonders how all this nonsense will be policed. can't see QPS accompanying all these high risk people to their transport.

I'll believe it when I see it
I'm with you. I'm not hearing any Premiers handing back their emergency powers, even though the emergency has reduced to the equivalent of a bad flu year.
In Tassie, we're apparently open, come December 15th. I'm still looking for details of exactly what's going to happen when we start getting positive cases. Positive cases who spent a few days circulating. Shopping centres shut down, people isolating all over the place? It's really becoming Orwellian, with Covid standing in for the enemy of the people.

Health orders dont require the declaration of a state of emmergency in NSW. The Premier didnt need to seek extra powers unlike in other states.

Sounds like a perfect solution. That is indeed allowable.

And this, my good friends, is the key: people will do whatever is simplest. Unless there is a police escort to every personal vehicle, people will walk out of the airport and do whatever they want: hop in a cab to get home, hop in a car with family, get picked up by a mate...

Have these people making up the convoluted rules actually watched the news any time in the past year and seen the many and varied ways ‘the public’ tried to get around their rules?

Once outside the airport every traveler will have ‘just arrived from CNS/TSV/insert intrastate departure point of choice here’...and be on their merry way. Some might even do the home quarantine process as agreed!
