They are scared about the spread of Omicron in NSW

Which all evidence to date shows is a milder form of the virus, meanwhile delta is what is spreading in SA right now.

And all cases in overseas travellers, yet to confirm any local transmission.

Yes

Interestingly they did not say whether the interstate visitors to the reunion super spreader event were from Vic or NSW, only WA was mentioned to date. But stated suspect Delta not Omicron.
Confirmed as all Delta.

I just saw a clip of the SA Premier stating that international arrivals now have to quarantine for 14 days in SA as opposed to 7 days. Does anyone know if this also applies to people arriving from interstate but who have been in another country in the past 14 days?

It does

Another unenforceable rule though yawn :)

Yes. It is supposed to change at 90% vaccination but I no longer trust them. @jase05 may have more info or an update.

Edit. I've just been looking through the application and it only asks if you've been overseas in the last 7 days.

so I'm off to SA tomorrow for the weekend for a wedding.....now we have to get a test on arrival being from NSW ......I had a test last night and got the negative result this morning...

My recollection re testing on arrival for interstaters is that it was implemented from the start, the update from Monday (ish) was it now also includes SA residents returning which originally wasn't the case.

But I'm a tad foggy about it. Just don't ask anyone with a badge on arrival, as you'll get 5 different answers from 3 different people.

When you exit out the terminal look for the Covid testing unit near Subway. Easy to see and usually not busy. Niece had hers done there last Thursday about 8pm and had the negative back first thing the next morning. Make sure you have the SA Gov app as well.

Has probably changed. the last NSW case arrived from Doha on 23/11 and is now in a special health accommodation with their family 2 of whom have tested positive but genomics not back yet.

Has probably changed.

We will see.

Whilst they hadn't been in Africa they had been overseas and anecdotal evidence is that QR aren't super strict with mask wearing etc, so they could have caught it in the terminal in Doha or wherever they were before Doha as there is now evidence of Omicron being in EU before it was reported in South Africa.

The articles calls the case and their family members all "travellers", and the only location alert for them is the serviced apartment they have been staying in since arrival, so not convinced we have actual community transmission, household at most.

Also if they were seriously ill, they would be in hospital not managed isolation.

*** Edited to add the 7th case has been "a child too young to be vaccinated", and the parents potential cases 8 & 9 havent had their variant confirmed but given in same household it likley is.

Now because one of the travelling party was not fully vaccinated, all 3 should have been doing 14 days home iso.

The 3 were all on the QR flight. The index case had a positive test on arrival the other 2 were negative. So Quite probably transmitted since arrival which then is just semantics as to whether community transmission or not. Obviously easily transmitted so it is a case of when not if there will be community transmission.
And if it continues to be just mild illness even in unvaccinated cases the more community transmission the better. That is how the 1918 pandemic ended in 1920.

But the strand of the flu didn’t just disappear. The influenza virus continuously mutated, passing through humans, pigs and other mammals. The pandemic-level virus morphed into just another seasonal flu. Descendants of the 1918 H1N1 virus make up the influenza viruses we’re fighting today.
“The 1918 flu is still with us, in that sense,” said Ann Reid, the executive director of the National Center for Science Education who successfully sequenced the genetic makeup of the 1918 influenza virus in the 1990s. “It never went away.”

The index case is a minor and unvaccinated, so likely have higher viral load than the parents who were fully vaccinated, maybe that the parents load wasnt yet high enough to detect on arrival. If the parents did get post arrival its a case of household transmission, unlikely they caught it out and about from a local in Chatswood given they were supposed to be in 14 days home ISO due to their unvaccinated child,

And if it continues to be just mild illness even in unvaccinated cases the more community transmission the better.

I agree, these extra omicron restrictions are totally ridiculous given the total absence of data showing omicron causes anything other than mild disease.

Won't the risk be mitigated with the 72 hour rule? If unavvacinated develop infection faster?

Possibly but the 14 day rule remains for unvaccinated travellers.

Unvaccinated under 12's account for an ever growing portion of local cases, so not surprising an under 12 international arrival iso'ing at home may be responsible for the first community case, as can now see they have added Woolworths, Medicare and Chemist as venues of concern.

But there was only one positive on that QR flight from Doha so how was it caught on the plane?
So what were they doing before boarding?
And they did go out in Chatswood including a Woolworths. Won't surprise me if we see more positives from Chatswood.

I never claimed they caught it on the plane, have repeatedly said more than likely child caught it in the community prior to baording the flight.

I do doubt that the famaily caught Omicron locally in Chatswood, given all have been overseas and every other omicron case diagnosed in NSW prior to the child had also been on flights from Doha, so despite Qatar claiing to have no omicron, Doha is a common thread in its spread to Australia.

So what were they doing before boarding?

The pertinent question. Did they forge pre-departure tests or vaccination status? Were they roaming around DOH maskless ? what wer etheir behviours before arriving in DOH (interestign we have not been told where they travelled from).

Yes i posted this earlier, but shoudlnt have been as they had an unvaccinated child in their party so should have been in home iso. Only meant to be in community if everyone who travelled was fully vaccinated.
