I never claimed they caught it on the plane, have repeatedly said more than likely child caught it in the community prior to baording the flight.

I do doubt that the famaily caught Omicron locally in Chatswood, given all have been overseas and every other omicron case diagnosed in NSW prior to the child had also been on flights from Doha, so despite Qatar claiing to have no omicron, Doha is a common thread in its spread to Australia.



The pertinent question. Did they forge pre-departure tests or vaccination status? Were they roaming around DOH maskless ? what wer etheir behviours before arriving in DOH (interestign we have not been told where they travelled from).



Yes i posted this earlier, but shoudlnt have been as they had an unvaccinated child in their party so should have been in home iso. Only meant to be in community if everyone who travelled was fully vaccinated.

From NSW website "Children under the age of 12 who are not vaccinated but are accompanied by a fully vaccinated person over the age of 18 are considered to be fully vaccinated for quarantine purposes."

There would be no requirement to isolate for 2 weeks as far as i can see. Only the current 72 hours the same as the parents.

Though the article I linked suggests it was transmitted on the plane as do all the TV reports I have seen.As the Infant was the only initial positive I agree it was most likely caught before boarding. but with the transmission to the parents plus the reports from portugal and the netherlands suggest transmission is eay so community transmission is a certainty.

Infants on planes don't mix with strangers without parents in tow as mentioned before it is more likely to have been from contact prior to boarding any flight. Planes have become the surrogate for 'I hate Cruise ships aka Ruby' in the media.

Kids under 12 are the largest cohort of current community cases, seems odd they are now some how magically safe to exempt from iso when unvaccinated adults are not. They snuck that one through.

No mention of the case being an infant, just an under 12.

And clearly you havent been in economy for a while, unfortunately kids roaming the aisles unaccompanied is quite common and they dont wear masks on the plane or in the terminal. But best money is that they got it before the flight.

But there was only one positive on that QR flight from Doha so how was it caught on the plane?
So what were they doing before boarding?
And they did go out in Chatswood including a Woolworths. Won't surprise me if we see more positives from Chatswood.

There are plenty of opportunities for earlier transmission. OR Tambo airport and any post test pre airport movement would be my prime suspect, given the 72 hour test window in SA. Inflight I suspect Doha rather less, and SYD. Those would make for a very short incubation I think.

Mighty unlikely. Agree from my own experience that QR mask enforcement isn’t 100% But you would get a very short distance in DOH without a mask.

NSW Health is keenly interested in people off these flights. My PCR test schedule is day 1, 3, 7, 12 and (post release) 15. I get asked about symptoms half a dozen times a day; interesting to hear the nurses doing their rounds mostly by phone. Any downstream positive cases among people off these flights should bob up pretty quickly.

The thing that also interests me is the possibility of earlier release than 14 days for the vaccinated that were on these flights. Three of the callers have hinted at that. Suspect policy change proposals may be working their way through the bureaucracy

I was in the three row mini cabin at the back of the SQ A350, which with hindsight was a mighty fine place to minimise my risk.

Well there's a very prominent former SA Premier currently positive and a high profile resident of WA currently in SA and employee of Andrew Forrest. Be interesting to see what happens there given said positive person stated they'd had a very recent as in this week, conversation with WA Premier.

It's going to take 12 months+ with COVID in WA community to trust WA won't stuff up any holiday or travel plans to Perth. No-one will trust that state in 2022.

As Children 12 and older are eligible to be vaccinated the child is indeed under 12.
I have seen a couple of tweets suggesting the child is aged 2 but that is not verified.

My recollection re testing on arrival for interstaters is that it was implemented from the start, the update from Monday (ish) was it now also includes SA residents returning which originally wasn't the case.

But I'm a tad foggy about it. Just don't ask anyone with a badge on arrival, as you'll get 5 different answers from 3 different people.

But why would anyone travel to SA from Omicron infected NSW (sarcasm!) with a new border restrictions in the form of a test on arrival potentially ruining your holiday and by then will be too late to cancel accom etc…

The key point I took out of the ABC article covering this was that they realise when the borders open, Western Australians are going to be travelling left right and centre and something will be needed to keep local hospitality busy.

And the relationship with Qantas doesn't start from a good place. That said, the intra-WA flights must have been a decent earner for QF over the last 18 months.

I've had to cancel 2 family trips to WA over the pandemic & it's last on my list to visit of all states now, not worth the hassle.

Finalising plans for a December work trip to regional NSW, I have had to cancel three jobs so far. All due to Covid uncertainty. I'm taking a risk, leaving Tasmania on the 5th, returning on the 23rd and hoping a politician keeps his word and the borders open on the 15th. Others are not prepared to, and I can't really blame them.
