Australian state border restrictions

Living with covid, hey 🙄

It’s amazing how travel/airlines/aeroplanes are the punching bag for this. Had the same occurred on a bus, not a word would be heard

I was saying upthread with the chaos on Sydney trains lately I’m 100% certain a bunch of cases will arise from that…. Haven’t seen any train loads of people being sent into ‘quarantine’

Who is honestly going to quarantine over Christmas Day unless they are under lock and key at a hotel prison… sorry but I would be more than happy to get a test, maybe even do a couple of lateral flows myself to double check but then I’m out and about. No chance :)
Awesome. I think the rules according to jakeseven7 should be clear to all by now. You are nothing if not consistent.

Cool story, so you would really quarantine yourself for two full weeks over Christmas if there was a covid case in row 1, you were in row 24 and double / triple vaxed and had returned a couple of negative tests? I guess good for you if you choose to - I somehow doubt Joe Public is going to comply with this…

I work frontline mgt (non med) with covid cases almost everyday. Perhaps because of this I’m pretty convinced hardly anyone is following the ‘rules’ anymore….

I was hunted down. I got numerous calls to verify where I was and don’t doubt if I was claiming home quarantine I would have had a visit from the rozzers.

these are also new exposure sites … just wondering if the positive case was cabin crew for the flights where all pax were ranked as close contacts.

We have no option here unfortunately despite what we might think of it.

If the whole plane as flagged as 'close contact', a high chance that all passengers and crew would've been directed to Hotel Quarantine/Medi-Hotels on arrival or whatever the appropriate states call it.

A mate just messaged me they are cancelling the VA flights and trip they had planned next week. Way too risky.

Find me a flight in this day and age that hasn’t got a positive onboard. That’s right, pretty much all do. It’s called living with it.

And unlike on a train, you can be pretty damn sure that every single person on a NTL-BNE flight is vaccinated.

This country (NSW/VIC/ACT in particular) now have amongst the highest vaccination rates in the world, yet we’re behaving worse than we were at the start of 2020!

I think you’re right (and many will disagree). The only way it changes is when people say “enough. I’m not doing it anymore”

Looks like NSW/VIC travel is probably going to be the safest bet for the next month or two. Last thing I want hauling a whole family of 6 around is the stress of potential isolation mid trip. Financial nightmare and I think my other half will divorce me as I booked the trip, and was my idea!

Rebooking the Jan trip now. Thank Christ for VA and no change fees.

What I hear from those caught up in those situations (like the flight messes) is that they are waiting a couple of days, doing a couple of tests then bang that’s it they are back out the door and on with their lives. I’m seeing very low compliance now and as you point out it’s because grandma is triple vaxxed and the whole family is done and is fine to carry on per normal with the person affected.

I appreciate I’m seeing all this across all walks of life in my role and perhaps AFF members are a more compliant cohort in general - but I can say with great confidence the amount of people following the rules (to the letter) now is much much much lower than even a couple of months ago.

People are making their own judgement calls now.

They don’t have the room for this. They must be at home isolating…

And as they should. It would have to be a very select group of covid-crazies who still believe the virus is a fate worse than death.

These are the facts. Nothing in this scares me in the slightest.

I would have to agree. Daughter and I have spent the last week driving through SA, Vic and NSW. We're trying to tidy up some regional jobs before Christmas.
Every night a different motel and obviously having to buy food and fuel. So far we have been asked if we've checked in four times and vaccination status twice. All in more obvious tourist areas. Everywhere else, no-one cares.

Going to be very awkward if this is a super spreader event. At the table next to us.
SA Premier and Lord Botham. Masks? Pfft and only in Adelaide Oval proper. This was on the training oval. distancing? Several hundred people in one huge marquis and one entrance

Still annoyed with being unable to attend last night but it was a choice between that and day 1 of the test because of work so it was a easy choice

Instead of taking the risk, if a close contact then taking your suggestion to breach a public health order while encouraging my Sydney staff to do the same how about I just remove that risk, cancel and book a venue in Sydney for the Sydney staff.

Locally (on both sides of the border) it’s mixed. Some places ask, some don’t. Some people check in, many don’t. I suspect that many appear to, but don’t actually complete the log in. In the Victorian regions, Dan overplayed his hand. Continual lockdowns, with no cases, just in case, have used up the public appetite for this level of intrusion. Seeing police officers pointing assault rifles at demonstrators also did not help the government case.

Sure I guess you could. You can do whatever you like and whatever sits within your personal risk profile, vaccination status and the vaccination status and health status of those around you.

What I’m observing at work is that that the automatic compliance to the rules has gone out the window now for many reasons as you would expect at this stage of the pandemic.

And personally, when I see dubious, politically influenced decisions about health such as quarantining whole aircrafts of people for two weeks;
- regardless of vaccination status
- regardless of any subsequent test results
- regardless of the PPE status of the pax
- in contradiction to health advice from other CHO’s in this country who have more relevant experience in the field of infectious diseases…

This then drastically undermines my own personal ‘oh ok I’ll automatically follow the rules’ attitude that I had for most of the pandemic…

It’s certainly getting a bit messy now! They just need to turn up the booster campaign (shorten the interval further in my opinion) and keep moving forward with opening up, without so many asterixes everywhere.

Such a personal dilemma - the Ette and I are booked MEL-MCY on Dec 23 for 7 nts - in basically 2 years of Covid I have been fortunate enough to not miss 1 day of work or no restriction on movement due to close contacts - but this plane business may just be too big a risk.

We have 3 containers of product arriving Jan 4, 5 and 6 which have been delayed in transit literally for months - 578 electric bicycles and tricycles in total with over 450 already committed to retailers - risk of 14 days in ISO Sofitel in Noosa is just way too much.
