Australian state border restrictions

McGowan not bending the rules

However, an ODI match between Australia and New Zealand is scheduled to take place at Perth’s Optus Stadium on Sunday, January 30.

Mr McGowan said no exemption would be provided for the 50-over fixture, which means interstate visitors, including players and broadcast staff, must undergo 14 days of quarantine if they want to enter Western Australia before February 5.

“If they are prepared to adhere to the rules then they can hold the game of cricket,” McGowan said.

“They just need to adhere to the 14-day quarantine rules.

“So that‘s what we said to cricket, they didn’t want to do that.
Floating the idea of bending the rules for cricket didn't go down well....

As it shouldn’t. If you are going to continue locking your residents away for dubious reasons then that needs to apply to everyone no matter how well they can chuck a round object at a wooden post you know…

I do however feel very sorry for all the people who again are impacted by this economically. And the poor tourism operators who miss another summer :(

Pretty sure the Test match here next week is the only reason why the alarms were somewhat reduced for the Omicron cases reported last Saturday. And now only 7 days quarantine for vaccinated people and I trust they've released the poor man they shoved off to a Med hotel simply because he shopped for 20 minutes in a plant store. He was going to be there for Christmas. He'd already tested negative. The power of public outrage.

Hopefully you’ve been released from your “special accomodation“ and are on the home stretch.
Why thanks for asking :) 14 days and 8 swabs later I got out. Chilling out in SYD for a couple days, starting with a real live cappuccino!

Note that we are planning to cross the border on the 17th so expect the shutters to come crashing down on the 16th. We have form…

Yes we are going to what may turn out to be the last Big Bash cricket game at Optus Stadium in Perth for quite a while. We are displeased that we are missing out on this current test series over in Perth.
Yesterday i went out to Gage Roads in a gyro stabilized boat and the 20 tonne Veem gyro worked sweetly when it was turned on. It was windy and choppy so a very good test.
Other peoples boats remain the best idea……

I assume you’ll be sending any bill you may receive back to them.

I’m up to 22 text alerts from SA Health now about entering SA. I never left. The application I requested expired on Dec 3 or 4. Blocking it doesn’t work. Must be able to override somehow.

Call and threaten them under the spam act. I did that to Tassie and they stopped.

I spent the weekend in Adelaide, visiting from Victoria. It was all fairly straightforward in terms of entry - simply showed them photo ID which they used to verify that I held a valid border pass, then provided the result of my pre-departure test. The new rule is that you only have to isolate upon arrival until you have been tested, not until you get your test result. Therefore I used the SA Pathology clinic at the airport and received my result within 6 hours. I have been receiving the daily symptom check push notifications from SA Health. I responded to these whilst I was in SA but am now thinking about deleting the app.

One tip that others may wish to consider. In the days running up to my departure from MEL there had been a number of flights listed as exposure sites. Passengers seated in the two rows either side of the positive case are deemed to be close contacts and subject to 14 days isolation (now 7, I believe). In order to reduce the odds of being caught up in this I forfeited my chosen seat at the front of the bus and chose one in the back row. As it happens the flight was empty, fewer than 20 pax but on a busy service this could make a difference.

Tasmania's border opens on 15/12.
On 14/12 the Tasmanian Department of health's new website goes live.
What possibly could go wrong.

Wow reading some of the directives - children are locked out of nursing homes from tomorrow… wow some grand/great grandparents are going to have a coughpy Christmas. Talk about overkill.

Hotel quarantine or home “quarantine” ? 😂

Testing feasibility aside it seems like Queensland will force you into the isolation if you are on same flight as a positive (even if you test negative), that doesn't look good for being able to fly home. Looking less and less like its worth the trouble to go north of the border.

This is something I will keep an eye on over the next seven weeks before we enter the fray. I rarely travel direct to where I'm going so the risk of getting stuck anywhere / unable to continue the journey is something to consider.

This is where a rapid test prior to boarding could be more useful than a PCR three days prior.

I am hoping WA looks at the shambolic entry requirements in other states and learns from them. Open means open, with the original requirements only. I am flying direct PER-HBA in early March but have yet to book return from LST. I can bus it to Hobart for $21 and arrive well in time, or fly via MEL. I still have concerns with that transit though.
