Australian state border restrictions

I think it will stop at 90% vaxxed.
We are up to nearly 100 cases and still have pretty much all freedom but the border situation isn’t ideal nor is the quarantine situation. Hoping to see some tweaks in the coming weeks to rectify the situation

I must say it’s nice not being the pariah nutbag state anymore, SA is well and truly owning that now! (I’m excluding WA of course who are rock bottom). It’s just incredible what getting a better CHO can do…. So far so good here!

During a frenzied run of four consecutive interviews on breakfast TV last Tuesday, Palaszczuk gave a colourful array of answers Diary imagines won’t do anything for the confidence of tens of thousands of Australians who have already put down their hard-earned on flights and accommodation.

When the Queensland Premier started shortly after 8am with an interview with ABC News Breakfast host Lisa Millar, she left no room for doubt.

Millar, a fellow Queenslander with plenty of skin in the game, pointedly asked Palaszczuk whether people could “trust” that “you won’t shut the border again”. The Premier’s answer was unequivocal: “We’re not shutting the border,” she told Millar bluntly.

...

[Later] Asked by [Today show's] Jeffreys whether lockdowns were now over, Palaszczuk twice replied: “Well, we hope so,” before quickly changing the subject to praise Queenslanders for getting the jab. Hardly a Queensland government guarantee!

When Usher on Sunrise later asked: “Premier, lockdowns, are they done-and-dusted?”, Palaszczuk was appearing even less certain: “Ummm, we hope there’s no localised lockdowns,” she started, before eventually conceding there were “circumstances” where “we may have to think of it”.
...

By the time she braved making a rare appearance on Sky News with Peter Stefanovic shortly after 8.30am, the only certainty was that things were getting more uncertain about borders.

Stefanovic asked her: “Will this be it? Will this be the end of the closed border?” By this time, promises were out the window. “Well I hope so. I mean I think everyone hopes so!” Palaszczuk said.

QLD is open for everyone! Come one come all - except WA sorry you are still locked out from the rest of the world :(.

PS try to spend in the little hospo places if you can that have been crushed by the border closures, if they are still there.

Huge bookings surge as Queensland border restrictions end. 50,000 people estimated to arrive today.

It’s been one of the most contentious border closures in the country.

But now, vaccinated Australians can pack their bags, jump in the car or board a plane — and cross the border into Queensland without having to go into any form of quarantine after almost five months of being closed.

Police estimate up to 50,000 people could cross the border today with the first flight from NSW touching down in Coolangatta just after 6.30am local time.

The Qantas Group are ramping up its services into Queensland exponentially this week, going from 100 flights last week to around 700 and 1200 next week.

“Just in terms of the size, Qantas and Jetstar combined last week flew 100 services into Queensland. This week we will fly 700 services into Queensland and next week we’ll fly 1200 services into Queensland. So it’s that big” a spokesperson said.

Sure - but I prefer to read what the CHO is saying in borders, who directs the QLD premier in the current set up we have in QLD… and so far (🤞🏼) everything he is saying and briefing us on is a lot more calm than the last CHO we booted out. But thanks for surveying the leading journalism of breakfast TV and cough sky news :)

I've still got so little confidence in QLD that I've booked backup flights to BNK for the end of January

Completely fair enough but our old CHO was much of the problem up here and has been moved on. Don’t punish all of us forever :)

My mate works at BNE airport and says it is absolutely humming this morning with the the borders opening and he’s already seen mainly tearful reunions - there’s heaps of people with balloons and signs, it will be a really special buzz this week and next!

There is a literal squadron of QF and JQ birds in the air hurtling towards all our airports it’s so lovely to see! It’s quite emotional!

The trip is meant to be split between Kingscliff and Broadbeach, and flying into OOL. But if it means I have to get 2 young kids tested twice, including once in NSW while on holiday to get back to the airport, we'll take the less preferred option and spend our money in a state that wants it.

Totally understand especially with kids but just remember that one person doesn’t speak for a whole state even if they think they do :) There are thousands of struggling businesses impacted by the border restrictions not all of us wanted in QLD who definitely want your money too - but for your situation it makes sense to do what you have done :)

Queensland entry pass Incorporating the Queensland Border Declaration Pass and the Queensland Travel Declaration

As is usual, Qld entry pass portal saying you can’t complete the new border declaration and get your pass until after the new system starts it seems.
Hopefully you’ve been released from your “special accomodation“ and are on the home stretch.

So if 50k people do in fact cross Queensland border today from NSW, ACT and Vic, I wonder how ready Qld is to process these 50K day 5 tests on Friday/Saturday (depending on whether today is recognized as day 0 or day 1)?

Typically Queensland only manage about 10K tests a day, the jump to 60K is bound to present a significant capacity challenge, hopefully so much so that its scrapped by next week.

Seems like a premature claim to me. The testing requirement is an unfair imposition on those who *need* to go to Queensland, and a total deterrent for many of those who might once have liked to.

You really think everyone is going to do that…? :)

If Melbourne to Perth flight schedules are a guide, maybe Jan 31

Well…. the WA Premier has being sucking up to QF as they are desperate to get their direct London flights back… so maybe you are on the money and QF got the inside word (again) 😂

It won’t be ‘practical’ for many people to get their day 5 test so therefore I suspect 1000’s won’t bother thereby saving our wonderful health infrastructure 😂

Perhaps they'll test 10k, and fine the others. I'm sure they'd consider that a win.

They won’t fine people (well they can’t fine everybody who skips their day 5) there are going to be simply too many. I think I general people need to realise the scale of movement and the subsequent ‘policing’ is simply not possible, to the big 3 eastern states anyway. It’s simply not cost effective.

Even Tassie can’t do it and they probably have the smallest number of flights / arrivals to process.

Already they are waving people across the QLD/NSW road check borders they aren’t even stopping all cars.

I expect that those who need to go there will put up with the testing. But, those who would otherwise like to, might be more selective. My guess is that there will be a burst of movement...pent up plus school holidays, and then it will die away. Normality will not return whilst those you want to fleece are treated like lepers.

I'll bet they stop most with Vic registration though!

Nope, they already have said they can’t screen every car. It’s impossible. Any rego plate is a winner :) I wonder how long before they pull the road checks all together.

I’ve worked with the new CHO & he’s fantastic
