Australian state border restrictions

DPRWA to open 5 February. Date is locked in*.

Usual post-arrival PCR test BS.
As someone that lives in WA, I think the 5 days in (with your negative test before departure) / 5 days out without needing a test is pretty reasonable. At least I know I can get back in without worrying about getting a test in the middle of a short business trip. Zero objection to getting a test when I get home to ensure I haven't caught it while away.

We are going to Sydney on the weekend (from Queensland) to be with family for Christmas. We have decided to drive down as I don't trust the Qld Premier not to close the border. We have a tray back ute with a camping pod so we will at least have a bed if we have to fluff around NSW waiting for access into our home state.
After all of this time I still don't think that it was the right thing to do to close the internal Australian borders but agree to to concept of Fortress Australia.

Is it a test on day 5 after arrival in WA? All I can see is “dependent on length of travel”
Edit: found the full details 👍

The test on arrival is a ridiculous overkill though.

Actually does this late opening of the border due to the slow vaccine rollout over West means Perth loses all its tennis as well?!

Well it looks like Scomo is giving that away as of later this week.

Happy to let all and sundry in from South Korea, etc.

Will be interesting to see how this pans out....

I think once there's community spread in WA the perception will change. I've traveled interstate three times during covid and every time I've been worried about catching it and bringing it back to my loved ones - it's kind of a trolley problem; if something I choose to do puts them at increased risk.

You've posted a number of times across a number of threads on how easy it is to go around testing rules. They did say these requirements would initially be in place for one month and then be reviewed. I suspect perceived compliance with pre-departure testing, along with community spread, will be big factors in maintaining post-arrival testing.

Well it’s pretty obvious what will happen… The virus will continue to spread, those who are not vaccinated, tardy to get boosted will be at greater risk of a less nice experience and hopefully enough people get boosted quickly enough to avoid overloading acute care. What VIC are doing with respiratory clinics though is good preparation.

More treatments are in the pipeline and the virus appears to be mutating into milder strains so eventually we can stop talking about it :)

Travellers from South Africa have the same quarantine as all other international arrivals now in Victoria - 72 hours

That’s good. Didn’t realise it had changed. Just need the do not travel warning to lift. Looks like the UK will be doing that shortly.

McGowan not bending the rules

However, an ODI match between Australia and New Zealand is scheduled to take place at Perth’s Optus Stadium on Sunday, January 30.

Mr McGowan said no exemption would be provided for the 50-over fixture, which means interstate visitors, including players and broadcast staff, must undergo 14 days of quarantine if they want to enter Western Australia before February 5.

“If they are prepared to adhere to the rules then they can hold the game of cricket,” McGowan said.

“They just need to adhere to the 14-day quarantine rules.

“So that‘s what we said to cricket, they didn’t want to do that.

Hope they lose this as well as the tennis :)
