Australian state border restrictions

Wow reading some of the directives - children are locked out of nursing homes from tomorrow… wow some grand/great grandparents are going to have a coughpy Christmas. Talk about overkill.
If I was locked in a nursing home this isolation from loved ones would stress me far more than catching Covid. It’s not like I’d be there for anything but marking time. Much rather live life to the fullest than the longest and emptiest.

My mum in nursing home was given an annual medical check with a clean bill then two weeks later had a fatal stroke. Her family was all that mattered to her.

Is that a joke? Can’t tell!…. I highly doubt WA will do anything sensical, logical or clear, per usual operating status… unfortunately.
Well, Mark did say pretty blatantly yesterday that they're hoping to learn from others' experience in reopening. One can only hope that results in not trying to repeat mistakes, as opposed to doubling down on them.

Tasmanian requirements from tomorrow . Various snippets from a paywalled Mercury article.

What it doesn't include is that Tasmanians returning after less than a week 'abroad' will need to take a test within 24 hours of arriving back, with no isolation required ( unless positive result of course). I can live with that, although I'm not planning any travel for a while.

Now of course j77 will make a big fuss about being unenforceable, system overwhelmed etc but remember only sea and air access, and they can and have held hundreds of people onthe tarmac checking details before being allowed in. And they love taking money off mainlanders for breaking the rules. Even jailed a couple ....

Come on down ... 😊

But to give Tasmania it's due it is opening up with the highest vaccination rate of any State when their borders opened. NSW was just under 90% double vaxxed the day they opened up.

I spent the weekend in Adelaide, visiting from Victoria. It was all fairly straightforward in terms of entry - simply showed them photo ID which they used to verify that I held a valid border pass, then provided the result of my pre-departure test. The new rule is that you only have to isolate upon arrival until you have been tested, not until you get your test result. Therefore I used the SA Pathology clinic at the airport and received my result within 6 hours. I have been receiving the daily symptom check push notifications from SA Health. I responded to these whilst I was in SA but am now thinking about deleting the app.
Do you need to have the app installed to use when they go through the arrivals process?

I had planned to head up to Brisbane from Sydney next week for two days for my works Christmas party. The way I read it is currently if I sit near someone on the plane who later tests positive I’m a close contact and 14 days quarantine in Qld

Practically that’s not likely to be discovered until a day 5 test and I will be back in NSW by then, but under NSW rules will have to do 7 days self isolation from date of contact which would have me self isolating over Christmas.

Unless things change in the next week that’s too much risk for me and trip / accom / restaurant bookings will be cancelled.

A question for the (SA based) brains trust.

According to the EntryCheck SA website when I head over next week I need to:

  • Pre-arrival negative test result taken within 72 hours before arrival
  • Test upon arrival and quarantine until this test is taken

I would have thought they would want me to quarantine until I got a negative result, not just until I took the test.

So after I walk out of ADL and get tested on the plaza, I am free to move about?

Given the messaging around Day 5 tests for visitors to QLD, thought I’d share the wording from the Border Pass about what you’re required to agree toDB2CD913-D417-4937-8C85-10DA035AF558.jpeg

Free to go as soon as you have been tested

The ACT has always been higher but we get rolled into NSW by a lot of other states. Our current figure is 98.3% over 12 fully vaxxed. Leaves every one else for dead (pardon the analogy).

There are plenty of people flying across from MEL to ADL this weekend for the cricket - could be similar situations coming up!

Thanks @Astro

Surely there has to be some sort of backlash from tourism operators in Qld over this Clayton’s opening.

Who is honestly going to quarantine over Christmas Day unless they are under lock and key at a hotel prison… sorry but I would be more than happy to get a test, maybe even do a couple of lateral flows myself to double check but then I’m out and about. No chance :)

Also - turn off your phone people 😂
