Australian state border restrictions

Qld just confirmed they are not removing the pre-test for entry requirement. Proposed alternative is RAT from January - if AHPPC 'approve"

"We are happy to get some further advice from AHPPC about rapid antigen tests. If this is approved we may be to legalise them in the new year from 1 January but between now and the New Year, we will require those PCR test people coming into our state." - Qld Premier - quoted by ABC

I think the phone call they need to make is to Anna, though she'll deflect as usual, then pivot.
Gotta keep Queenslanders safe, and keep hospital capacity for Queenslanders! Queensland hospitals are for Queenslanders.

Ok Anna says she has spoken to Dom (from the CM):

Ms Palaszczuk said after discussions with the NSW Premier, they had agreed to retain until at least next year the need for people to get a PCR test within 72 hours of travelling to Queensland.

Ms Palaszczuk said about 10 per cent of NSW testing was for people coming into Queensland.

She said Queensland may use rapid antigen testing from the new year for people entering the state.

Look I’d be grudgingly happy with an at home rapid…prior to leaving of course… better than PCR. But it should really be nothing.

Wouldn't be surprised if the commonwealth/nsw/vic simply stop funding tests for outbound travel purposes.
Put a disclaimer on the test result from a federal level stating this test is not for interstate travel purposes, and if caught using this a $5,000 fine payable by state premier + $5,000 fine payable by individual traveller. Must be private practice COVID test. This'll change the states attitude quick smart. Acknowledge tough on family visit's though.

Only 10% - so really not a big deal lol - wonder what component is for Qld/SA/Tas/NT each

SA might get on this bandwagon if the Federal Government agrees to pay for RAT testing.

Qld Premier mention needs approval from somewhere - it could mean Feds agree to pay.

She fired back at journalists when pressed on long waits for people trying to get into Queensland.

“It’s only 10 per cent, 10 per cent, with all due respect I think you are wrong,” she said.

For one, they claimed 35,000 cars crossed on Monday - and if we take that as the daily average, that’s more than 10% of NSW tests. There’s no official way to record the reason you are being tested in NSW and some may give other reasons in case they think travel gets a lower priority.

But even if it is 10%, who cares, NSW is testing 150K a day, completely different league to QLD even with the population difference - how is she in any position to say how long the wait is in NSW?

The QLD testing system is going to collapse if everyone goes for their day 5 test. I’m already at the 48 hour mark and still no result.

But remember QLD Health have widely publicised they aren’t checking or tracing the day 5 test so I think most people just won’t bother - so they won’t have that testing impact on their testing centres.

My solution is simple. Queenslanders leaving the state require a test in advance if they are going to NSW. Returning residents exempt.

Queensland testing is already collapsing. Testing centres closing early due to capacity reached and long waits for results are being widely reported.

Most people will try to do the right thing. I think you’re wrong about that.

NSW testing now falling apart too. I’m sure this will be top of the list at Nat Cab - pre interstate travel has to disappear…

Personally I think the requesting state should pay for the ‘tourism test’
Driving to northern NSW last Friday we stopped at drive-in Laverty testing site at Port Macquarie as I wanted to visit brother & family in QLD and fly out of OOL rather than BNK.
The chap who took the swabs asked if we wanted travel test or symptoms then told us said QLD + Feds paying for travel PCR so Medicare card not required 🤔🤷‍♀️

Ultimately you're going to pay one way or another...

Yep. One thing I’ve noticed from this pandemic is that many Australians think money grows on trees. The guy at the testing station would have absolutely no idea how it’s being funded.

At about $100 a pop though, there are a few pathology companies having a very merry Christmas.

Or others in a similar situation can ask the Qld relo to meet in the border zone.

There is a border bubble rule.

My solution is simple. Queenslanders leaving the state require a test in advance if they are going to NSW. Returning residents exempt.

Looks that Qlders can travel south for a fair bit and return with no testing requirement.

Border zone areas are Local Government Areas along the Queensland/New South Wales border zone that may have increased restrictions in place due to the increased risk of COVID-19
transmission in the community. These border zone areas will either be restricted or non-restricted.

It is important to note that the restricted or non-restriction status of a border zone does not impact the hotspot status of the area.

List of restricted and non-restricted border zone areas

Restricted border zone areas

  • Moree Plains Shire - except (from 1am AEST 13 December 2021) the localities of Tulloona, Garah, Boomi, Mungindi, Toomelah and Boggabilla

Non-restricted border zone areas

  • Ballina Shire
  • Bourke Shire
  • Brewarrina Shire
  • Byron Shire
  • City of Broken Hill
  • Clarence Valley Council
  • Glen Innes Severn Shire
  • Gwydir Shire

So the guy at the testing station has no idea how it's funded, but you do.....do you know the guys name, background or their knowledge base of that guys at the testing station that knows nothing, oh wise one you??

I think we all know it's the gov paying for everything, & in turn you & me.

Does anyone have intel whether passengers from Melb are being screened on arrival at Brisbane airport?

From what I understand it will be 100% during quiet times as what they can during peak times.

They did say they are doing remote audits of the border passes of what has been uploaded.

Ms Palaszczuk said about 10 per cent of NSW testing was for people coming into Queensland.
Problem is that 10% won’t be evenly distributed. Upthread there were reports that the number was much higher Grafton for example.

cheers skip.
