Australian state border restrictions

But Im goin to go to my 3 locals now and see if I can get one. If Qld introduce RAT from 1 Jan, I could self test for Day 5.

Back with successful purchase. Went to Chemist Warehouse they sell 5 test box for $49 or a 2 test box for $24 (or 3 boxes for $60). They had imposed a 3 box limit, so I bought 3 * 5 test boxes.

Will try the other discount chemist tomorrow, as i know my hypochondriac sister would love some as a stocking stuffer.

Everyone is just waiting for WHO or powers that be to come out with something stating OMICRON half as severe as DELTA, then the dominos will fall on state borders. Oh, that day............................

Creates issues for the testing staff who have to ask why a person is getting tested. People will just lie.
Heard two interesting stories today.

One guy rang up all in a furore. He'd waited for a couple of hours for a test. He was one of those 'worried well'. He had not been anywhere near a hot spot, had no symptoms, and had no contact with anyone. When asked why he was there he said he just wanted to have a test. They turned him away. Duffer.

The opposite. Someone having surgery in next couple of days needed to have a covid clearance test. He was well, no contact, etc etc but had to have a test to have the surgery. He too was refused. What is he supposed to do!

Does anyone have intel whether passengers from Melb are being screened on arrival at Brisbane airport?
My experience is no. Even International arrivals (via other state) with "IR" pass not getting any attention on arrival to BNE domestic.
On today's presso QLD police commissioner told that it's impossible to get boarding pass to QLD if one not double vaxxed. Not even close to reality. was still able to check it via QF app, no questions asked at the gate, no questions on arrival.
Went to police officer at their desk next to luggage collection belts for him to scan QR code on my pass - not even interested. Said I am free to go, just follow what stated in the pass.

This is because:
There’s simply too many people for them to be enforceable. They don’t have integrated smart systems, no link to airlines / other border crossing checks so people who are worrying about trying to abide by these wasteful (at best) rules need not stress so much…. :)
especially when rules they produce is so freaking that following them feels impossible.
Like if you arrived on International flight to SYD and transfer immediately to domestic flight to BNE it's fine, but if you left airport confinements - you already dimmed higher risk and have to HQ on arrival to QLD) This is while every one else arrived on the same flight with you from Sydney are free to go.🤦‍♂️
And given they don't have any ability to track if you left airport or not any way....

Close to the end of a big day of NatCab and ‘final’ border changes for Xmas/New Year.

Now onto Xmas, Boxing Day Test and Sydney to Hobart
Hoping that this turns out to be true! Next nashy cab in a fortnight I believe.

Anyone listening to McGowan on the ABC
He’s going off

What was he going off about?
I was trying to watch but the ABC YouTube feed kept cutting out and back to their teradek's holding screen.

So now as International arrival I am serving QLD 14 days home self iso as per border pass direction.
But they failed even here stating clearly that you have to checkin with geo-tag using link texted to you once a day. So, after receiving text 10 am it's clear that there will be no checkins for the rest of the day
And even timing of this text messages always the same - 15 minutes past. So if no text now, it is safe to leave to your local for another hour 😆

We arrived back into Tasmania this morning, ex Adelaide. I applied for the permit last night and noted we'd been in NSW but no hotspots. Miss NW is a minor so added her on my permit. Green permit came through immediately.
Upon arrival steered into two queues. Orange being approved with conditions. We were Green so quick scan of permit and through. Curiously they wanted vaccination proof for daughter but not for me and no questions about prior tests.

in QLD RAT's are readily available in any pharmac_

I don't understand what is up with SA. Reasonable adults will use them as a final check before visiting the elderly etc if asymptomatic given they can't access the free PCR tests in that situation. The unreasonable people probably won't even bothered being tested via PCR.

I bought mine from Woolies which I may or may not have with me when I head to SA!

My test came back negative this morning so I am hoping for a speedy exit from ADL tomorrow arvo. I will report back if the same visa system is being used. :D

Goneski

"As of Tuesday 21 December, vaccinated people who have arrived into South Australia from Victoria, NSW or ACT are no longer required to have a COVID-19 test upon arrival or on day 6.

They must still receive a negative COVID-19 test result in the 72 hours prior to arrival in SA.

People who have any of the symptoms below, even if mild, should get tested for COVID-19 as soon as symptoms appear:
• fever or chills
• cough
• loss of taste or smell
• sore throat
• tiredness (fatigue)
• runny or blocked nose
• shortness of breath (difficulty breathing)
• nausea, vomiting or diarrhoea
• headache
• muscle or joint pain
• loss of appetite"
I have half those symptoms on a normal day.

MrP has chronic sinusitis - long term thing. Sneezing. Blocked nose. Cough. Thankfully his GP isn't insisting on multiple covid tests before he sees him. CT scan done and ENT booking in early January.

You could set up a market stall and flog a few. There is a member here who might be very interested....but hopefully they see this.

The second situation is ridiculous. There is at least one dedicated Clinpath lab in the city only for preop and pre admission patients. This is common knowledge among SA medicos but not the wider community because these labs should not be burdened with turning away people who don’t fulfil the criteria. My patients who need admission or a procedure normally would do so within 48-72 hours. I’ve sent two patients just this past week at 4 and 4:45 pm for a semi-urgent procedure the next day, pre-admission 7:30. One result came back 10 pm same day and the other early hours of the morning. At least with Clinpath there’s guaranteed turnaround by 8 am. I’ve used this service maybe 8 times since Monday with swabs taken the day prior, and ALL of them had timely results. It doesn’t matter whether they’re private or public, and it’s a free service. Any patient who doesn’t get informed of this service should lay the blame on their doctor.
