Australian state border restrictions

The second situation is ridiculous. There is at least one dedicated Clinpath lab in the city only for preop and pre admission patients. This is common knowledge among SA medicos but not the wider community because these labs should not be burdened with turning away people who don’t fulfil the criteria. My patients who need admission or a procedure normally would do so within 48-72 hours. I’ve sent two patients just this past week at 4 and 4:45 pm for a semi-urgent procedure the next day, pre-admission 7:30. One result came back 10 pm same day and the other early hours of the morning. At least with Clinpath there’s guaranteed turnaround by 8 am. I’ve used this service maybe 8 times since Monday with swabs taken the day prior, and ALL of them had timely results. It doesn’t matter whether they’re private or public, and it’s a free service. Any patient who doesn’t get informed of this service should lay the blame on their doctor.
Thankyou. I'll keep this in mind should partner need surgery for sinus issues. The story I heard was from someone who lived on Yorke Peninsula. They mentioned having to travel to Kadina I think it was for their nearest testing centre.

Probably the other part of the issue, all good to have a facility for such purposes but if it's in the CBD, even if the procedure is to take place in a nearby hospital it may be inconvenient if not impractical to attend that particular site.

Glad it exists, however it doesn't detract from the very real problem at hand.

Or others in a similar situation can ask the Qld relo to meet in the border zone.

There is a border bubble rule. Looks that Qlders can travel south for a fair bit and return with no testing requirement.
Ultimately it was ridiculously easy to catch up at the Coolangatta SLSC. Just parked near Twin Towns club then walked across the non-existent "border" with nil pedestrian barriers there, just a semi-restricted roundabout for road traffic.

Laughable farce 🙃☺️

Police were checking PCR and border passes at luggage belt in BNE this afternoon. Quite a few of them working through waiting pax.

AP on presso just now said entry PCR test still stands, no matter what. "It's all about keeping queenslanders safe".
Checked 2 locations on northern Gold Coast in Helensvale and Pimpama - both got over 2 hr waiting time.

5 day test result returned just now - negative. Received 68 hours post test.

If this was my pre departure test at home I would have had to cancel my plans by now.

So you could say in her opinion if you use a RAT test that wouldn't be keeping Qld'ers safe.
Yet next month that'll be the norm.

Travel to GC end of Jan, shall I buy few RAT's in advance, could be like toilet paper of 2020/21.

Friends went last week to BNE from MEL …back yesterday… not asked for anything at any stage…. what a shocking waste of resources this ‘leisure-testing’ is (diverting valuable trained health professionals away from where needed/not to mention the mounds of plastic🤦🏽‍♀️ and $$&)
Totally agree. Two hours queuing for a test and they didn't even ask when we entered Tasmania. Results didn't come through until we'd been in the State for a day, so if we had been positive, we'd have had ample opportunity to pass it on. Once loose in the community, it's going to spread. Complete waste of time and resources.
If they want to minimise community transmission, test on arrival and isolate until negative result would be the only effective means and that would only be delaying the inevitable.

Stunning how this seems to go ignored.

But of course that isn't what QLD, SA and TAS want as they know the inflow of visitors will far exceed the outflow (most of which are going to states not demanding ridiculous testing regimes) and there is no way they can deal with the volume of tests that they will have to process.

Horrid planning, a maze of bureaucracy and a huge public sector wage bill - Australia seems to regularly have all the above unfortunately. Overall, horribly inefficient.

The pineapples went down to our local hole in the wall pathologist for our five day test, to ensure we did our bit to clog up Qld's testing resources.

Busiest ever there, but that's only a 20 minute wait. SNP staffer estimated 50% of people getting tested were travellers, either in or out. This is in a provincial town on a lesser highway.

cheers skip

Yep decision made to cancel within last hour - flts were / are a consideration - but news of Aust Cricket Captains predicament in ADL last night casts another long shadow over the risk in QLD - wotif…………. - 14 days? Nope - risk however remote is just too great - and I am the tiniest worry wart on the planet - so plenty top shelf Champs / Reds on offer in Parkdale over festive season if you dudes wanna wander up?
And as we cancelled trip to Noosa we then did the right thing and called restaurants and cancelled our forward bookings there - both Sum Yung Guys and Rococco subsequently had Covid diners and both now closed - a few days later and it could have been us - how would it be 14 days in poolside villa at Sofitel and you couldn’t even walk out the door for a dip?

Jeezus - talk about dodging bullets 🥺

Increasing restrictions in NSW and VIC have started the cancellation train big time. Seen a few facebook posts about cancelled holidays.

Some friends and I due to go up to NSW in early Jan, 5 of 6 have expressed significant concerns and likely to cancel. I'm apparently the only one who isn't at all concerned given I'm just as likely to get infected in Melbourne than I am in Sydney...

That's because of the isolation rules not because you have covid
Forget the fear mongers then, come down. Melbourne city is pumping, pubs and bars are busy, shops doing a good trade, weather is perfect.

What's COVID?
Coming for the test (cricket, not because it has shorter lines).

Enjoying the cheap hotel rates while they last.
