Australian state border restrictions

I was in the West for pretty much the whole time so fingers crossed
Listening to the FB feed right now and Prof SPurrier keeps referring us to the updated website. It hasnt been updated....maybe they want to take hostages at the airport.

The SA definition appears to accept the transit however the Tas one says going to the airport is below medium risk but the definition is a little loose.

Bit surprised at the bit about Tas. I thought it was pretty clear (and, in fact, generous in allowing overnight MEL airport hotel stay)

I’m going to HBA next week from NSW and have re-routed my trip to avoid MEL completely for this reason.

I've done the same en route to Adelaide :). But apologies in advance for the upcoming arrival experience at HBA :(

Courier Mail is reporting that "A new Queensland Travel Declaration will be permanently introduced for all travellers entering the state". Permanent? Like even after the pandemic?
Princess Fiona lives north of Sydney, so can fly from NTL (or other) would only be impacted if has been in Sydney since 11th, unless TAS block all of NSW.

Last time we could drive to SYD and fly out as long as we didn't stop in Greater Sydney for fuel and arrive by private car (no public transport)

A bit hard to get from NTL to HBA without going through MEL - can backtrack through BNE but I would just drive to SYD.

Interesting, WA gov floated a permanent declaration, but were told it could only be done while the state of emergency was in place.

In QLD there is only one House so if the government is not a minority one they can pass practically whatever they feel won’t lead to the public turfing them out at the next election. Less checks and balances on the level of restrictions that can be imposed.

There's a service via CBR with 45/60 mins connection times (same plane even though different flight #?) on Link.

I would not fly Link any further than CBR, and even then I'd probably rather drive.

Effectively, WA has no opposition, so not much in the way of overall checks and balances either.

Have you flown on a SAAB? Its ok NTL-SYD or NTL-CBR at a stretch, but I'd rather fly JQ for anything further (but QLK/QF if possible)

Many times. I tend to look at these things as adventures. The views would be great. Each to their own though. It's still an option for some.

You'd only do it once.

I once flew Newcastle - NT in a private King Air with 3 stops. It took all day.

I think I'll mark the "slow regional prop adventure" box checked and look for something faster with better service.

SA has banned its own residents from returning home it seems:
"All people, including essential travellers and SA residents who have been at one of NSW’s Covid exposure areas are not permitted to enter the state."

For the life of me I do not understand why we are putting up with this absolute misuse of power!

And it’s been that way for the past 99 years. Anyone remember anything different?
