Australian state border restrictions

Just got a txt from NSW Health reminding me that I need to test on arrival from overseas and isolate until receiving a negative result. Specifically said I could use a RAT. That’s as good as testing over for arrivals. Just need to ditch the pre-flight test now.

Absolute insanity. That’s enough to potentially ruin peoples lives. And for what? Some premiers ego.

More from wa;

Tasmania and the ACT will be elevated to a ‘high’ risk category from 12:01am Monday, January 3 2022.
Under this category, the exemptions for approved travellers will be restricted to:
- certain senior Government officials;
- certain active military personnel;
- a member of the Commonwealth Parliament;
- a person carrying out functions under a law of the Commonwealth;
- a person carrying out a limited range of specialist functions; and
- a person given approval by State Emergency Coordinator or an authorised officer.

Pretty funny they consider the ACT to be decoupled from NSW for public health reasons, they are clearly linked.

Again, we are supposed to believe the border comes down in 5 weeks? Yeah right.

Not going to happen.

If they do come down, there will be more restrictions than currently proposed.
No doubt at all, enough to make a trip to visit family untenable I suspect. Imagine if you had a positive case on your aircraft? I can imagine the Police coming to knock on your door. No thank you.

Admittedly the ACT is surrounded by NSW but has always had different measures to handle COVID from NSW and until August last year had had a very very long period with no cases at all. When considered overall, the ACT has been very much a separate entity from NSW.

No dispute there but that was then and this is now (and Omicron)

From our experience in SA, once borders open the restrictions will be far worse than prior until eventually the numbers will be so immense as to make public health control measures almost impossible to police. The testing stations will be overwhelmed with public health requirements. People put into isolation for being in the wrong place at the wrong time.

Has WA started their vaccination program yet? If they have when their vax rates are over 80/90% should be all good :)

Tassie giving free Panbio RATs to arriving pax today! Wow what a bonus! You could sell them for $25/30 on eBay these days! (Seriously). It’s one of the best you can get in Australia.

Agree but shouldn't just be ACT and NSW - Omicron is borderless so maybe no states/territories should be considered as separate entities.
That should've been the case since the start but maybe I shouldn't open such cans of worms...

What makes you think it’s borderless? Two years of covid have shown that the Premiers all think a line a map will stop it.
