Australian state border restrictions

No, this is not necessarily what the people want. Everyone I know was wanting the border opened on February 5, We know Covid-19 will rampage around the state as it has over east.

There was no referendum. This is not the “people’s choice”!

I appreciate many don’t. But you’ve just got to look at that election result… as close to a referendum as you’ll get. I’m sure they weren’t voting for him because of how well managed the health system is.

Yep, you get what you deserve. WA folk applauded his hard stance and it was a major vote winner. Even now he is spruiking how the WA economy is the best in the country by a mile

Completely agree. There hasn't been a time when WA looked even remotely close to opening borders before Covid was effectively eradicated.

Surely no one is surprised about today's announcement?

At the time of the election, things were very different to now. But that is in the past. Like a great many others in the the present time, I expected borders to open next month.

To that end, I have booked flights from LST to MEL in late March, and subsequently to PER. In my heart I was prepared to quarantine on arrival home. Unfortunately I might be right. Or I might be begging my sister for a bed for some weeks!

It doesn’t matter what date we open, Omicron will come.

You never know - the exemption list might be anyone triple vaxxed, doing 14 days home quarantine, with the requisite testing

My boss just texted me to say we will be exercising a clause in our contract with WA Health which relied on Feb 5 which is going to cost them (well the WA tax payer) an absolute fortune and I’ve never been so happy to screw a customer over in my life!

WA Health were caught off guard with this announcement thats for sure. Sounds like another captains call to me….

I bet the number is not as big as the $30 billion Clive went for!

No, but it’s 7 figures and it’s not a court case. They will be paying. They’ve already called us absolutely panicking as the BUM at WA Health probably threw up when he watched the presser knowing what it meant for them. Anyway, tough poo. I could care less.

Dumb question but is it ok to transit WA?

I see three possible scenarios
1. Other Domestic State to WA to Other Domestic State
2. Other Domestic State to WA to Overseas
3. Overseas to WA to Other Domestic State

Are any of the three possible, annoyingly timatic doesn't cover domestic borders 😂

Yeah, its probably easier to fly from east cost to Perth via SIN right now.
What are the caps for intl arrivals?
Not sure of cap but need to do 14 days quarantine for all international travellers. 7 days in a quarantine hotel and then 7 days at a suitable premises

I guess WA doesn’t want QF9/10 back (which used to have the leg between MEL and PER as well as PER to LHR, but is now MEL-DRW-LHR).

I don’t see how QF could have any confidence that WA will both reopen and stay open in the foreseeable future.

This is very bad for both domestic and international travel to/from WA.

1 & 2, no - all other interstate locations are extreme risk.
3. no, 14 days quarantine.

No, this is not necessarily what the people want. Everyone I know was wanting the border opened on February 5, We know Covid-19 will rampage around the state as it has over east. That’s why the majority are vaccinated. I think it’s near enough to 90% now, but not sure of exact percentage. That’s the figure we were told for border opening. Booster doses didn’t come into the equation.

There was no referendum. This is not the “people’s choice”. There might be some backlash ahead.

Don't know. The keep the border closed contingent are sizeable have been quite vocal

The DRW transit from a premium pax perspective is absolutely sub-par.
PER was not.
If WA remains closed I’d rather it’s rerouted through SIN providing the green ribbon/ transit area is gone.
