Australian state border restrictions

They have plenty. They keep reminding us of their surplus.

Will be very interesting to see the reaction from the international carriers tomorrow into Perth.

You misunderstand my point. At some point the pain of putting up with WA needs a response.

Alan grounded the airline a decade ago. It worked.
I understand your point, but Qantas for example needs to make as much money as possible in whatever way possible. The main scenario I would see Qantas grounding the airline (in WA) is if the FIFO travel dried up.

No fifo can keep going. Just nothing crossing a state border. I believe VA have basically stopped Perth transcons anyway.

I’ve just been reviewing the covid mortality rates in each state. For once, maybe I can say McGowen is right;

NSW - 0.11%
VIC - 0.25%
QLD - 0.03%
SA - 0.06%
ACT - 0.07%
TAS - 0.06%
NT - 0.26%

WA - 0.67%

As the worst performing state in the country in terms of COVID morality, perhaps WA does need to maintain such harsh restrictions.

Happy to, P1 met and greet, escorted to the lounge. Lounge itsief was far better layout, decor, F&B and amenities. The current transit in DRW is not a premium pax set up at all by comparison.

Fair enough. Can’t say I’m overly fussed about being escorted to a lounge that I’ll spend maybe 30-40 minutes in. Not quite that precious. Do you need to be rescreened in Perth?

Thanks - I saw some Qatar options being via Adelaide for example, so must have missed the direct flights (once per week???) - Scoot would be really scrapping the bottom of the barrel.
Have you ever flown with Scoot? Good wide body aircraft, not the usual budget 737s. It’s a good service from SIN-PER. Probably from other capital cities to Singapore too.

COVID-19 coronavirus: Travel to WA
Thanks, can't believe I missed that info. Scoot has some cracker deals for like $350 one way from Perth to Athens with just a 2hr transit in Singapore.

Now before anyone complains about Scoot, you must remember that Western Australian's are trapped in their own country state so the flight would be very empty.

On a different note, if anyone is based in WA and desperate to have business meeting/family catch up... I think I've found the perfect loophole. They fly over from the east coast to Perth and transit for a few hours to an international flight. You have your important business meeting/family catch up in the international terminal whilst they check in... everyone is happy (except the WA gov 😂 ).

Hit for six. Not paywalled.

None of the excuses are washing really. This is all sleight of hand stuff.

Id put money on some large political donors pulling some strings at the last minute.....some of the big resource companies - ones that refused to sign the Business Councils open letter for the opening of borders back in September.

There is an international cap applicable to WA - it was 530 per week, but halved mid-December.
Given the apparent flight ratio 7 Scoot : 1 Qatar, I'm guessing Scoot is your best way in.

Edit: Had another look - perhaps Singapore SQ and Emirates EK fly direct too 😅

More opinion writing from media.

The more I read and digest, the more sick I feel about this. My parents have both been boosted at the first possible opportunity. Younger brother dragged his heels on double dosing to maximise protection as no border opening was on the horizon at the time.

Now what? Before the "safe transition plan" was announced, I was convinced in my mind that the WA government would do everything in their power to delay reopening until boosters and after the winter. But as it happens, Omicron came and boosters came way earlier than expected.

My anticipation now is that we will probably be being offered 4th doses (ugh) before any realistic movement on the WA border.

Looks like SQ have cancelled all their Perth flights. Not surprised - after the announcement I called to cancel 2 LHR - Perth business class flights and the call centre commented how just they were with cancellations already.

She offered to rebook but I declined as no point. Getting 100% refunds.
WA has just created huge sovereign risk for all airlines. It’s going to take some time to undo that.

And to bring some Omicron booster into WA as well) current local cases not high enough for proper outbreak.
That would definitely help!

No you do not

Princess Fiona - have you recently done a trip back to Aus from the UK? As someone based in the UK, planning to head to MEL next month, I wanted to ask you if it was ok on the test on arrival back into Aus. Is it possible to use any RAT/Lateral flow for that (i.e. free NHS tests we get here in the UK)?

Also, apart from filling in the ATD - any other forms to fill out?

Thanks :)
