Australian state border restrictions

I'll telegraph it now

"We did all we could"

"NSW introduced it to WA"

Yawn. Failure.
It actually came from Tasmania.

Also that 24 positive cases came off less than 5,000 tests. That’s appalling.

I just wish he’d lock down, to crush and kill it. After all, it’s so easy to do as Marko spent months telling NSW.

I'm actually not sure if you're been serious about locking down, or are you?

Well I would like Marko to be consistent. Crush and Kill. Simple.

Over here I’ve spent two years being told how we are covid riddled and that each and every resident of the state of NSW is personally responsible for ignoring all public health advice and killing people.

Let’s say schadenfreude will be running thick shortly.

Seems like the logical thing to do if the goal is zero covid until 90% boosted. Isnt that the basis for the border backflip?
WA has a 90 % double vaccination rate right now. One estimate I saw suggested 90 % boosted rate would be reached sometime in June. Are you suggesting a 90 % double vaxed population should lockdown for 5 months?

Sticking with 5 Feb would have been consistent too

I am thinking something short and sharp.

Over there in the west they “do what is necessary” to crush and kill.

I hope that the airlines servicing XCH/CCK have an alternate plan.

Do you remember the short and sharp lockdown in Victoria? How did that work out?

Maybe Omicron will make the decision for him, it seems like it is already there and spreading

And with extremely low testing, very low QR code compliance and poor rates of compliance when “close contacts” are asked to get tested, it’s probably far higher than the reported case numbers. Not that I blame WA residents one bit for any of the above they are clearly sick of everything as well!

But Sydney did it all wrong with Omicron remember and they failed and then infected the nation - according to the WA propaganda machine so I for one look forward to seeing how this plays out… and hopefully forces their border open soon 😆🥱

There’s now also active resistance to the public health measures due to the breach of trust caused by the abandonment of the date. A number of people anecdotally telling me that they won’t check in and won’t test or isolate.

You need to get your sarcasm circuit checked
Its not sarcasm. All I'm saying is, 'short and sharp' lockdowns are usually nothing like that. Lockdowns are a good idea when the population isn't vaccinated, sure. But, for a 90 % double vaccinated population? Even with a full lockdown, elimination of this variant is unrealistic. The impacts on peoples lives would, however, be catastrophic.

Given they had 20% check in compliance at several of the venues they were frantically trying to contact trace, the people who told you that they aren't checking in in Perth are clearly not alone!

Totally agree plus in a highly vaccinated population (which WA IS, despite being the laggard Australian state) there are going to be TONNES of asymptomatic transmitters. Lockdowns are not going to be effective, even if they tried (AGAIN). My parents ignored the last one in Perth and they are extremely (normally) law abiding residents and I suspect they were not alone.

The question is how many more cases before they at least RELAX their border rules - starting with free from test/quarantine travel for all WA residents and immediate family.
