Australian state border restrictions

Do you have similar problems with the entourage that went to the G7 then?

I have a problem with neither. But both send the same message.
Well, I do see a difference between doing something for the Country (G7) versus doing something for ones self.
But I didn't like the pub meal photo opp and do not understand why his minders didn't stop that and know it was a very poor look.

Comparing attendance by a state health minister at a regular meeting while in lockdown, with the PM ( not in lock down) going to a first in 2 years international meeting of world leaders essential for Australia’s trade and defence is a bit of a stretch!!

Sutton is not the Health Minister.

Ah. So while Prof Sutton chose to travel from Melbourne ( in 25 km lockdown) to Canberra for a NHMRC meeting and an awards ceremony, his peers from WA, NSW and the NT chose video link.

But of course Prof Sutton was entitled to break the 25 km lockdown so that was OK. Do as I say ( or order) not as I do comes to mind.
I felt bad making a comment to someone I know regarding him travelling while the rest of Melbourne was kept for leaving but I did not know this at the time.

Try it. Nowhere near as easy to do as it is to say

Never said it was easy, just that its something one has to do until all these nonsensical domestic border closures stop.

except SA banned transit stops as well in the first border closure thing.

But its not a transit stop. If you are on a direct flight for example SYD-PER and the rules change whilst you are in the air, as they have a few times, when you land in PER you have the option to enter HQ or get straight back on the next flight back to SYD without leaving the airport (assuming there is a seat, which there usually is as when new restrcitions come in lots of locals cancel their departing flights). There was no transit involved in any scenario I was referencing.

Is Waverley the general Bondi area?

Yep and all of the cases of transmisison (outside of households) in this current cluster have occurred in Waverly LGA.

SA has only restricted Waverly LGA.

Vic has restricted 3 LGAs: City of Sydney, Waverley and Woollahra - no reason given for adding the other neighboouring LGAs. BUt im guessing with the new mask rule Vic will also add Randwick, Bayside, Canada Bay and Inner West before the day is out.

I was referring to the question whether transit stops at airports can get caught up in a border restriction. Landing in and walking around an airport then leaving on another flight is a transit airport. Even if it has the same flight number as that’s purely an administrative thing. In SA transit stops counted as being in the state until that changed and in WA if transiting in a ‘banned’ state airport they still are so not sure what is the issue?🤷‍♀️

Being inside a banned state airport has and still is in some states, considered the same as being in the banned state.

Weren’t there “Tier 1” or whatever the term is exposure sites in Vaucluse (Woollahra) and the CBD? That would almost certainly be the reason, rightly or wrongly, Victoria seem to apply interstate hotspot rules to LGAs and not specific locations.

Yes - thats my reading of it. Its another interesting anomaly of the Covid-19 virus that it now somehow knows that if it was acquired in an infected host in say Woollahra NSW it will be able to infects residents of of VIC, but somehow is unable to infect people in SA. And thus a person from Woolhara in NSW is currently an unacceptable risk in Melbourne, but an acceptable risk in Adelaide.

It’s very complicated. A person from the three LGAs can enter Victoria (and get tested and isolate until getting a negative result. Whereas SA’s restriction (just for the one LGA) is that they cannot enter the state.

So someone from Waverley can enter Victoria, but someone from Waverley cannot enter SA

Our son and his family live in the Woollahra council area.So they can go to the Gold coast for the marathon in 2 weeks time but if it was the Ballarat marathon for example he would be unlikely to be able to go.He would have to fly after work friday at the earliest. So getting a test and isolating until negative could mean not being able to start on the Saturday morning.
Victoria out does Anastacia.Who would have thought.

Who would have thought indeed.

I feel like Victoria are being ultra cautious. I think they waited too long to act in the recent outbreak and look where that landed the state.

Victoria have become demonstrably the most risk averse state when it comes to border closures since emerging from lockdown last year. Which is frustrating for anyone looking to travel in or out.

Proven correct, Vic has just added those LGAs to the Orange list.

I now predict that tomrorow they will add Parramatta LGA due to a case visiting there.

I'm supposed to go to Perth next week for work, and even though I'm well outside the risk area, the requirement to isolate & get a test is probably going to make the trip unviable. Do hotels even let you isolate in this instance? Do WA test results usually come back overnight?

Will be frustrating if Vic add Canada Bay LGA to the list. The shopping centre at the centre is an outlet mall. It’s not really used by local residents on the weekends, especially last weekend as it was chaos around it with all the traffic. Most locals go to neighbouring suburbs for their shopping.

Canada Bay is on the list as of this morning.

The Victorian "orange zones" are now the following LGAs: Sydney, Waverley, Woollahra, Bayside, Canada Bay, Inner West, Randwick
