Australian state border restrictions

I’m hanging onto my HBA-xSYD-ADL now, although my SA border pass application wasn’t approved straight away last night.

I was referring to the question whether transit stops at airports can get caught up in a border restriction. Landing in and walking around an airport then leaving on another flight is a transit airport. Even if it has the same flight number as that’s purely an administrative thing. In SA transit stops counted as being in the state until that changed and in WA if transiting in a ‘banned’ state airport they still are so not sure what is the issue?🤷‍♀️

Being inside a banned state airport has and still is in some states, considered the same as being in the banned state.
This is a very interesting point and certainly for me I feel, lacks clarity. I have never seen clear references to transit pax and now makes it makes me uneasy on flights booked for next month that include a transit at ADL, one at MEL and another at SYD each ranging from between 2 to 3 hours where I would effectively go from aircraft to lounge, to gate and then to aircraft for the sector. Form filling is one thing by this is not leaving the airport

Thats a bit concerning, my SA border pass has always been approved within minutes online, travelling between QLD, NSW and SA frequently in 2020 and 2021. Hopefully its just a maintenence/change to IT systems thing happening within the SA system and yours will arrive soon. Or maybe they are queuing and manually checking all SA border pass applications involving VIC and NSW at the moment? Was your border pass application a vanilla one or were there some essential travellers exemptions or such?

This is Australia - there will be 7 different state and territory interpretations and variations of the rules regarding what is and isn't a transit in an airport.... none of which will resemble each other or be able to be found online easily.

In Feb 2021 when MEL T4 terminal became a "hotspot" I think there were retrospective state orders to isolate and get tests done for people who had been in T4 on those particular dates. And then it later got retrospectively expanded to all of MEL airport if I remember correctly?

It was vanilla, only Tasmanian postcodes listed as having spent time BUT I said I was arriving from NSW - as I have a flight transit in SYD. SA allow airport transits.

my previous SA permit was also approved straight away.

I'm supposed to go to Perth next week for work, and even though I'm well outside the risk area, the requirement to isolate & get a test is probably going to make the trip unviable. Do hotels even let you isolate in this instance? Do WA test results usually come back overnight?
My test from the PER airport clinic, approx 5.30pm, came back 7.45am the next morning. Most testing centres in Perth close at 4 or 4.30pm so you would want to get tested at the airport if you can. In my experience, the private clinics send your result the following afternoon (though I had one at 9pm after an AM test).

If I recall correctly, the document I was given after returning from MEL during the "isolate until your test comes back" period said I could isolate at a hotel but I needed to advise them and the hotel can refuse to let you stay there. So it's probably good to check in advance.

Some hotels are able to let you isolate - but best check with the hotel.

The turnaround on my last test was 10 hours, and I got that at 9.30pm.

Call me naive, but then I would have thought QF would be trying hard to make to clearer to pax, after all I would imagine they just don't want pax cancelling flights under the "all to hard " logo, unless of course they are happy running empty aircraft. I would also suggest that both SYD and MEL but deal with transfers often. All a bit bewildering frankly.

Partner received a text message the other day from Qantas about checking whether he could fly Sydney to Adelaide. But honestly, its too much to expect Qantas to reliably keep up to date with all the thought bubbles coming from the various states. Just a couple of days ago I was corrected by SA Health on Facebook when I said their current ban prevented SA residents from returning home from Melbourne or Sydney- cant remember which one now. I suggested to them they check their own PDF guidelines and uploaded that document which speifically stated that residents were banned. They didnt respond on FB but their PDF did change after that. So SA Health didnt even know what their documents that they had posted on their FB page actually were stating.

It’s time now that fully vaccinated people should be able to travel freely of these stupid restrictions that even the governments can’t keep up with

Canada Bay is on the list as of this morning.

The Victorian "orange zones" are now the following LGAs: Sydney, Waverley, Woollahra, Bayside, Canada Bay, Inner West, Randwick

Bayside runs from Botany to Sans Souci along the Botany Bay foreshore including the airport. So any one flying in/out of SYD will also travel through Bayside. Could make border crossing more complex to negotiate.

Partner arrived into Adelaide from Sydney on Friday night. As expected, about a five minute interview. They knew he'd been to Bondi - except that was back in April but he was still quizzed about that. Partner couldn't help himself and asked, so where is the question about whether I'm vaccinated. Harrumph. Move along.

Yep LGA restrictions are better than city wide, but actual exposure venues are even better.

Canada Bay was declared as Orange by Vic at 6:30pm last night, it was mentioned on the news.

I've been racking my brains to see if I can come up with a reason to report her to the QLD Medical Board.Any doctor that treated their patients like this causing gross psychological pain would stand a very high chance of being struck off.

being struck off

Dream on.. she has friends in high places.. untouchable...
She will be the new governor of Qld!!!! Awkward question after CHO promotion

The Qld CHO is a laughable joke...she should retire asap!
She's certainly not retiring!!

I'm (hopefully) travelling to Perth next week and I lived in Bondi Junction only a few years ago - in fact I just saw my credit card is still registered with that billing address.

I'm going to expect some issues!
