Australian state border restrictions

So if you go to the WA border restrictions website, you get a very misleading graphic

What that doesn't tell you is that NSW have to test & isolate on arrival, despite being labelled "very low risk" the same as the other states.

Perhaps it should be called "lower risk" to diferenciate?
Some hotels are able to let you isolate - but best check with the hotel.

The turnaround on my last test was 10 hours, and I got that at 9.30pm.

I called Hilton Perth and asked them directly. They were very vague, but ultimately implied it would be fine. "We're not a quarantine hotel... but others have self isolated here". She also said they've received a stack of cancellations so ultimately I don't think they'd refuse my business.

Beauty, off off to "why'd you wanna go there" Dan Andrew's quote, state next week.
Downloaded the SA app, now to register.

What's NSW doing? Nothing has changed from them for about a month. Still need "papers" to go to Wagga.

And does the SA opening still require multiple tests? I never did understand how someone coming from, and staying in, the regions, was supposed to find CV testing stations in the middle of nowhere.

Permit is a formality, border is open unless you have been to a place of concern (i.e. an actual covid exposure sites on the published dates and are under a Victorian iso order). Last change was on 11th June.

Queensland Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk said travel restrictions on people travelling from Victoria will lift at 1:00am on Friday.

Didn't want to miss out of the school holiday revenue.

Yes. 3 of them in 14 days but no iso required.

Ok. So how does that work? If you're off towing your van, and trying to head north, I sort of doubt that testing points are actually readily available (though I'm happy to be wrong), given that even normal medical issues require the flying doctor.

The 11th of June change did little more than remove an asinine restriction which was placed upon border residents. We were under no Victorian restrictions, but somebody in NSW thought it would be a good idea to apply the Melbourne ones to us if we happened to accidentally head north.

It was vanilla, only Tasmanian postcodes listed as having spent time BUT I said I was arriving from NSW - as I have a flight transit in SYD. SA allow airport transits.

my previous SA permit was also approved straight away.

I changed my routing to HBA-xMEL-ADL; is an award flight so the SCs aren’t relevant.

re-applied to SA and got another ‘pending’ reply.

I checked my prior, instantly approved permit and noticed that it was valid for another 3 weeks or so! As I’ve said before, I’m a doofus 🙄.

So I’m going to use that approval for entry and not worry about the other.

Is extraordinary ( but good) that their approval is for about 6 weeks or so, not per trip.

Tough luck I guess. Condition of entry. People from NSW have to do this now.

Trip to WA next weekend cancelled, made it Sydney instead. Now with Sydney outbreak growing I can see WA closing off. And possibly Victoria opens.

How on earth does one keep up with this stuff. For those of us who actually have jobs to do and can't take unlimited leave it's impossible to travel anywhere despite being fully vaccinated.

Hmmm. Friday! My booking is for Thursday so because of a matter of hours I'll have to change my flights.

How can it be safe on Friday to go to SA and not hours earlier? These rules make no sense.

Edit: Hmm still need to take a day one test and isolate. This is madness! Need to figure out when the testing requirement is likely to lift to figure out when to rebook for. Hopefully in a week or two.

If they want to encourage travel they need to remove ridiculous restrictions like testing. Not being able to go to the footy is understandable, however.

I’m off to Perth on Sunday. Don’t like my chances of getting there, had to delay meetings on Monday morning as I’ll likely still be in isolation.

I’m only going for work, so at least they’ll be paying for any extended stays or cancellations. No way I’d be using my own money to go to WA at the moment.

I'm going to SA just for the weekend to visit friends and family some of whom I haven't seen since prior to the pandemic. So the most I'd consider would be a rapid test and almost instant results, but to have to isolate till a negative test back, forget it.
