Australian state border restrictions

He is limbering up for yet another back flip. Can't wait to see what ludicrous proposal comes out this time of WA....
Imagnine him setting a date, let's call it 15th April (2022 of course), then on 12th April calls an emergency press conference and cancels it again stating daily cases are too high, and even though WA has more daily cases than any Australian state, he doesn't want additional (read Dirty Eastern Staters) cases to further overload the Health System. Declares 2022 a write off and will look to open in 2023.

I'm going for a late March/Early April opening. Some pundits are mid-March, while others are early March. Whatever it is, I doubt there will be much notice.

I spoke to someone today who spent the weekend in Perth for work reasons. They said it was basically being herded around like goats, were looked down upon as being diseased and they were followed almost everywhere by idiots in hazmat suits waiting to clean up after them as they visited the facilities they needed to conduct their business.

They had 4 COVID tests in the 3 days they were in Perth. Could not leave hotel room unless on official business. No one allowed to visit their room from the same travelling party. However they were all allowed to be in the same room elsewhere for however long they liked for "meetings". Oh and one of them was given permission to leave the hotel whenever they liked to tend to external equipment on site. Could've gone to the pub for a meal.

Whole thing sounded like a joke, but very much real.
Ah, sounds like 18 months ago (for me). Come on WA, catch up!

Exactly the reason I want my folks to go and book flights to get out now, prices are v. low for post this period but as soon as something is formally announced will shoot up again no doubt.

Still think it's unbelievable I can go to Europe in 3 weeks but not Perth in my own country....

Yep. I’ve been overseas three times since November, but getting to Perth would be harder than Pyongyang at the moment. Given so much of the world is back to almost normality, it’s hard to even imagine the drama that goes on at the WA border.

WA OPENS TO ALL*

Supreme leader McGowan today gloriously announced that the WA border would be open to all* residents and other aliens from Friday. This decision will only enhance the ongoing majestic economic achievements being made by the WA government.

*1. All persons crossing the border will be allowed unrestricted movement into and out of WA only if they are:
A. in direct possession of a warm fish milkshake, or
B. able to prove they were born under a full moon with Aries rising.

2. All others will be required to complete seven (7) days quarantine at a state run facility to be constructed in <insert West Australian federal seat on smallest margin here>. The state run quarantine facility is being so located based on the best possible health advice.

3. WA health advice cannot be released at this time due to reasons of confidentiality.

Over the past few months my favourite facebook pastime has been to comment on The West Australian newspaper about the hard border.
The tide is starting to turn, as now the paper are starting to ask when will the border open.
Qantas have had to keep the flights via Darwin for another 3 months because WA couldn't make up their minds.

Me too!

Open WA border - yay!*

*PCR Test 72 hours prior to arrival. Quarantine immediately upon entry with PCR test within 24 hours to release. Additionally RAT test 5 days after arrival.

Or could be human like most of us , flew ASP to MEL and back weekend prior, completely open borders with NO RESTRICTIONS.

I marvel that I was easily able to travel overseas for work during the pandemic, but not to WA. And not to other states from time to time, including being locked out of my own.

Cheers skip

It would be a tough one to get up - but truly I don't think a lot of people realised how much power resided with the states.
But what's wrong with that?

Especially when Federal govts might have an anti-State bias and need to have some moderation...

Why not ask an average person who lives in a State?

Waaaaay too much.
I don't see Australia as country of its own any more, just bunch of independent countries wheeling to stick together IF they pleased.

Can't get this:
If international border control is responsibility of feds, why they can't just say ok, from midnight border in PER international terminal is open for everyone according to national plan. You are all fully vaccinated, so suck it up and deal with it.
You can blow up domestic terminal altogether if you pleased, but you can't stop ppl arriving from Singapore as it's federal border force you deal with on arrival, not wapol and you entering Australia, not just WA.

Didn't say anything was wrong with it, other than people's understanding of it.

For those looking to go temporarily to Perth, particularly from interstate, there's an interesting option that I've only recently become aware but which appears to have been around for several months: transit provisions (TRANSITING AIRCRAFT PASSENGERS DIRECTIONS (NO 3) - Google Search).

The G2G app allows for two types of domestic transit, up to eight hours or up to 72 hours. For the latter, you must travel directly from the airport your "suitable premise" and remain there until it's time to return to the airport. The premise may be a home where others live. I recently "transited" in Perth - between Melbourne and Melbourne. It allowed me to spend a couple of days in Perth with family. Not ideal, but certainly better than what I thought was the only option, which was to quarantine for 7 days. In fact, unlike the quarantine provisions, there is no requirement under the transit provision for others at the suitable premise to also remain at that address during the transit period.

The transit provision link isn’t working for me.
Now updated, thanks
