Australian state border restrictions

How long can they get away with 'I dunno we can't decide'.....?

Calls grow for WA border opening date clarity

Opposition Leader Mia Davies said the government was unnecessarily withholding information in its refusal to release any Omicron-based modelling or to say when an announcement on the border reopening would be made.

"We're still in limbo, we still don't know what's going on, and we still have numbers climbing in terms of Omicron in our community," she said.

"This government is being secretive and there is no reason to be."

"This community has done everything it has been asked to do, and they are not getting any clarity from the government when we see COVID spreading through the state."

The Premier confirmed he was due to fly to Sydney next Thursday on February 24 as he is required to give evidence in defamation proceedings with mining billionaire Clive Palmer.

The Premier has previously said he would make an announcement about the WA border reopening by the end of February at the latest when a review by Chief Health Officer Dr Andy Robertson was complete.

Jetstar cancels flights from Perth amid indefinite wait on WA border call

Jetstar has cancelled all flights from Perth to other Australian capitals through March as uncertainty hangs over when Premier Mark McGowan will bring down WA’s hard border, with flight prices through other companies increasing.

In a statement, Qantas Group said it had “reviewed its domestic capacity settings” due to the government’s decision to indefinite delay the border opening.

If I were running an airline, I’d want to see them actually open, and stay open, for at least a month before I’d even look at flights. Their on/off pivots in the past will have cost the airlines enough money.

Some of the event companies have said they won't be starting planning big events until after the borders are actually opened.

I booked flights to Perth after I return from Europe. Would've gladly paid cash for VA flights as excellent deals going. But don't trust the government, so burning velocity points (at a pretty poor rate) and not risking the money is the way to go.

Sovereign risk!

The date will obviously be after the federal election

"177 new local cases overnight, with multiple cases linked to events at The Avenue in Claremont, Cottesloe Beach Hotel and Gage Roads in Fremantle." - its getting better and better!

"Of the new cases, 33 were self-reported through RAT and 7502 PCR" - so low testing numbers! surely much more going undetected.

"Premier Mark McGowan, who was at Gage Roads on Friday night during a potential superspreader event, said he had since returned two negative RATs." - well that is good just hear words super spreader event in WA context. But could be better if he tests positive

Got my exemption (CEO and CHO letters required). Flying out next weekend, assuming no further backflips or random G2G cancellations.

So I'd put a large bet on borders opening just as I go and all this hassle would have been in vain :p Flights are very painful, needing an overnight in MEL on the way.

sjf211 points out, it should be acceptable.

The only thing not specified is whether they regulate how you are able to spend your time in Perth international terminal (eg do they prevent access to J/F/paid lounge). Hopefully silence means freedom. Also international airport being theoretically Federal jurisdiction.

The transit provisions say nothing about entering lounges, using F&B venues etc. On my recent visit to Perth from the Covid-ravaged, lockdown-raged east, I entered the Qantas lounge purely on the back of my vaccination. Not a QR code to scan in sight. It's laughable.

What exemption did you apply for and what letters did you provide?
As a health care worker; the CEO of the company and the CHO had form letters of support, saying I was covering critical staff shortages.
