Australian state border restrictions

I just can't see how WA can enforce the requirement to do a RAT within 12 hours of arrival...it was just like NSW saying it was mandated to report a +ve RAT less risking a big fine....right o 😉 I used to be very Covid rule compliant but after 2 years and lots of rubbish thrown our way by the elected leaders, I now get away with what I can :)

It's not just the restrictions but the absolute inconsistency within states, and also between states yet they all receive the same health advice. For me it's the freedom that sportspeople have been given across all states, while life and death issues have been abandoned.

Government has created the beast of a large portion of the electorate expecting the government to protect them from every bad thing.

They can't rip the band-aid off for risk of being exposed to the masses for the bunch of fools they are.

If Norway, Denmark, Sweden and Switzerland fall apart in the next 8 weeks then maybe they were right. If (as will happen) life goes on and nothing much changes, the pandemic is over and so is the era of government overreach in to our personal lives.

For me, the scar of having to carry around government issued paperwork to be outside my home after 8pm is not one that will heal.

Ha I agree, wasn't it 9pm though.
I remember going for a walk as exercise near my home & at ~930pm I saw flashing lights, panicked & took detour, geez those day.

A strange thing to say? That's a terrible slur against the people of WA.
Well I would say the same thing about our CHO and hence State Govt in SA. To the extent there is furore on FB when people in their very advanced years (90's and 100's) die WITH Covid and not of Covid. I never knew SA had so many people over 100.

Does anyone know when Qantas is likely to add flights back on to the MEL-PER route?

I'm looking at going to Perth about a week after the border finally opens to see family - and am keen to use up some points to fly over in business - but the flight options are still looking very sparse.

Might have to wait until QF have a degree of confidence that the borders will actually open…

Well, I can understand their hesitation. This is my fifth attempt to see my Dad in the last two years - the fourth having been booked for 18 Feb (on the strength of Mark McGowan's previous announcement).

That said, the demand is certainly there and the date is only 11 days away.

Lots of demand means sky high prices! I would expect some increase but not too much JQ expansion…

AJ quoted on ABC today:

"We were planned ready and organised to open up on the 5th of February, now we're struggling to meet the 3rd of March because we have people on leave who we asked to take leave.

"It's a very disorderly opening. We'll be putting capacity on, but it could have been done a lot better than this, and it's disappointing we had this wobble for a month."
Mr Joyce said the border announcement on Friday had left too little time for Qantas to schedule as many flights as it would have otherwise.

"We apologise we won't have as much capacity as we should have had," he said.

"But this is just because of this late decision, and we will get there.

So possibly some extra capacity, hopefully some of the A330s that used to do transcon, could start appearing in the weeks to follow.

Unfortunately, I would expect that initial demand means quite limited J award seat options to start with, though you might have luck with a later upgrade request.

We've had a J reward flight booked on the direct LHR-PER for begining of June since last year. Now it's via SIN and SYD with 11 hour wait in Heathrow, total of 44 hours!!! Not sure what to do. Don't know why we couldn't have come home via Darwin. Any suggestions appreciated

Why the wait in Heathrow or do you have a connection elsewhere in Europe?

Very helpful - thanks.

I'm not surprised Joyce didn't get a heads-up phone call from Kim Jong-u... er... Premier McGowan! ;-)

Yes, that's occurred to me too - which is why I'm keen to jump on them as soon as flights are added. There are absolutely loads of seats later in the month.

We're coming from Paris and the Sydney flight leaves really late.
I'm not 100% across QF change rules but maybe ask QF if they can add a (later-arriving) BA CDG-LHR award segment to the LHR-PER
Assuming your original Paris flight is revenue, this should reduce the cost as you would not then need to pay the UK Departure Tax
