Australian state border restrictions

Thanks, good idea. Will try and change CDG- LHR flight and just have to cope with all the other stops!

The Federal Court has relisted the defamation trial between Mr McGowan Queensland billionaire Clive Palmer from this Saturday to March 7.

The date change means Mr McGowan will not be required to undergo any period of quarantine upon their return to WA after the border opens on March 3.
However, Mr McGowan’s office confirmed the Premier intended to undergo seven days isolation anyway. 🤣

Is the date change anything to do with Clive Palmer potentially contracting covid?

Still unconfirmed at the stage but with symptoms. Obviously unvaccinated and a picture of perfect health.......the irony

The report I saw suggested that it was related to border changes (the hearing had been set down for a weekend to work around various things)

The ABC is reporting that he has "Covid like symptoms" and had to cancel his much heralded, by him in his bilious adverts, National Press Club address.

With WA having 643 daily detected cases there is no turning back now. Border restrictions or the lack of them shouldn’t make a big difference.

Which is exactly why they are opening on March 3. The CHO has assessed that by then the border restrictions are essentially meaningless.

I wonder what the modelling showed would have been the case for WA if they stuck with the original Feb reopening? Omicron has found a way in despite closed boarders, of todays cases on 2 were travellers, so what has kicking the can down the road achieved other than meaning the peak will be in a busier time of year ? vs peaking in January had they opened in line with the east coast.

It's the "we've done all we could" defence.
Perrotet ignored this when lifting the mask restriction and had to backflip. The maskless period probably had a negligible effect on the January peak but there are plenty who lay the blame there

May be behind a paywall

A synopsis

Western Australian Premier Mark McGowan hit out at SA’s Covid-19 strategy, saying he “values human life”.
In an address to WA parliament on Tuesday, Mr McGowan said he was “proud” of his government’s stringent rules, namely delaying the opening of borders that had been subject to intense criticism.
“I’ll be proud of that decision, that there will be people alive who wouldn’t otherwise be alive because of the decision the Government of Western Australia took,” he said.
WA delayed state border openings for four weeks from February 5.
Mr McGowan criticised leadership directions of the SA and Tasmanian governments, as well as “other governments around Australia”.

“The South Australian, Tasmanian governments, other governments around Australia, took a different decision and there’s a large number of people who are now dead in those States,” he said.
“That’s my point of view – I actually value human life, I value it.”

I wonder what McGowan thinks of the mental health of e.g. small operators in the WA tourism industry struggling to make ends meet who were finally seeing some light at the end of the tunnel, counting on the borders reopening on February 5 only to have hopes dashed at the last minute? Or what about people separated from all their family for the last two years?

He may have saved some lives, but at what price?

Also many of those who were 'saved' will probably get exposed to COVID in the coming months, so he may have just delayed some deaths.

I'm not affected by the WA border closure personally, but as someone affected by other border closures I can certainly empathise with some of what people are going through.

That's a very silly & irresponsible point of view & thing to say imo.
Disrespectful in a way too I believe.

What's he going to say about those that will die after he opens.....I mean his state is opening & many will still die.
How will he explain his value of human life then?... Oh well we have to open at some point, now is the right time (won't mention the deaths I bet).

I can't stand these premiere's constantly having a stab at each other... Really what's they point.

"I bought them time they wouldn't have had if they were in Dan or Dom's evil kingdom"

Plays to an agenda, unfortunately. And still two years in, people are lapping it up. I assume we’re all bracing for border restrictions, vaccine passes, QR codes and drive through testing during flu season?

Just applied for my G2G pass for WA. I’ve entered foreign countries with less hassle than that was! Interestingly they are still asking for a reason for entering WA.

Write what some of the FIFO’s write on there (was shared on reddit)… I won’t type it in full but the first letter of the first word is F and the first letter of the second word is Y ;)
