Australian state border restrictions

Hard to see how they will be able to. It appears other States are viewing transit through SYD as a Sydney visit. That's a killer for anyone in regional NSW. Their only hope are the various flights through MEL, assuming the Victorian restrictions continue to lift.
All NSW travellers are banned from SA and WA so regional NSW folk can’t come regardless. I think other states/territories may follow suit especially if Sydney goes into total lockdown on Friday like I’ve heard being suggested

Yet only 1/5 QF SYD-PER flights are cancelled tomorrow, and the one they cancelled was a 737 (still 2x 787s, a 737 and an A330 flying).

If Qantas are afraid of burning money by having the lounge open they sure aren't showing it. I think they'll only close the lounge if the Health regulations insist.

Hope they don’t, we have some bigwigs knocking knuckles in a covert transit lol need the space!

this Is just beyond a joke.

Here"s a nice ridiculous anomaly, if someone currently in Broken Hill wants to get to Adelaide they cannot drive to Adelaide or fly direct on Rex to Adeaide, but they can drive to Mildura airport and then fly direct to Adelaide or even via Melbourne. Meanwhile the nearest Covid case is over in Sydney which is approx 1140km away from Broken Hill and 1370km from Adelaide. Go figure.

Looks like the SA and WA premiers have gone the full Covid-tard this time.

That is different to what the Premier stated this afternoon.

Premier Steven Marshall told reporters: “Most people would have realised that the situation in NSW is deteriorating; we have additional exposure sites and the number of new infections has increased.”

“We’re announcing now, effective immediately, we’ll put level six restrictions in place for NSW.”

However, there will be a 100km “buffer” along the border, allowing free movement for residents in border communities to and from SA.

“That will be a great relief for people in places like Wentworth and Broken Hill,” Marshall said.

“Anybody living or operating within that 100km buffer will be able to travel unrestricted into SA [but] any other person seeking to arrive from NSW will be required to seek an exemption,” he said.

Queensland don’t consider this the case at this stage.

However the economics will force a lot of cancellations anyway.

I knew I should have cancelled this trip!

Having already changed flights to avoid MEL, I also had my G2G cancelled today. Not even WA residents are allowed to return home via SYD. Fortunately the radiant Rebecca at the call centre moved me from OOL tomorrow to a direct flight BNE-PER on Friday. New G2G application was approved. So for the relatively minor cost of the shuttle from OOL to BNE tomorrow and a hotel for the night at BNE airport, I get to go home. I think I’ll still need a covid test from having been through SYD on Tuesday, but that is a minor irritation. No wonder cruise lines have cancelled their Australian itineraries! They can’t work with these snap border closures.

A work mate’s wife coming back from KL after being with her dying mother for six months completed her 14 days in hotel quarantine in Sydney today. The poor lady arrived at Sydney airport this afternoon for her flight home to Perth only to be told it’s not happening! She’ll have to find some sort of accommodation now for at least 2 weeks.

Um, you might want to check that….

Travel from NSW will no longer be permitted, unless you are an exempt traveller.

This also applies to anyone who may have been in NSW and has not subsequently been in a ‘very low risk’ state or territory for 14 days, including travellers who have been in NSW since 12.01am Friday June 11, 2021 who arrive after the hard border has been introduced
.

😱

I thought Hotel prison people were exempt travellers?

I applied for and received a new G2G pass, so I’m not going to ask questions.

I’ll pass that on. Thank you. (Makes me wonder if she had applied for a G2G.)

I think she would need to have travelled directly to the airport by private car, always masked up etc. If, based on restrictions as they were at the time, she took the train, then I think that would make her ineligible?

Just be prepared to be turned around at PER or put in isolation.

The G2G doesn’t override the rules

Will do. I’m more likely to be sent home to quarantine, but if I am sent back to Queensland, I have a friend to stay with. I will need to wash clothes every day!

I’d say so too - I didn’t mean to be harsh, but I just had my WA trip cancelled so I’m intimately aware of the rules! It was a work trip and I’m an essential traveller but as there’s no exemption from the 14 day isolation, it’s not viable.

No worries. I certainly didn’t take offence. I realised you were just wanting to give a warning in case of disappointment.

I have a client going to Norfolk Island this weekend for a meeting on Monday. Oddly, the advise doesn’t seem to have changed for Sydney. Anybody been keeping an eye on them in the past to guess their border hysteria? I’ll admit that it’s somewhere I’ve ignored.
