Australian state border restrictions

I have a client going to Norfolk Island this weekend for a meeting on Monday. Oddly, the advise doesn’t seem to have changed for Sydney. Anybody been keeping an eye on them in the past to guess their border hysteria? I’ll admit that it’s somewhere I’ve ignored.

They did close to Melbourne, I'd say it's inevitable they will close to Sydney. Probably just a bit slower on the gun. You need a pass anyway so for all we know they are calling people directly and assessing on a case by case basis.

VIC just declared all of greater SYD a red zone

Positive case flew in from Sydney to Melbourne at the weekend.....

Norfolk Island is now under QLD control

Norfolk have updated today.

I see Victoria have re-introduced a transit category to their permit system. Straightforward and clear. Well done them.

Edit - OK, they now only get 9/10. The wording of the permit itself appears to be hard coded as follows, no matter the origin (in my case, Hobart, totally 'Green')

When you apply for your border pass you will select one of the following options. Then you will be OK to travel onto Qld (per current rules).

If we are still locked down don’t necessarily expect the flight to operate. You could proactively call to see if you can get on to CBR-BNE-CNS

QLD have just announced they are putting road border controls and permit systems back on the QLD/NSW border.

Breaking: QLD reinstalls hard borders at road crossings to NSW

Mr Miles said there was concern about people from Sydney holidaying alongside Queenslanders in northern New South Wales over the school holiday period, so local border passes will be reintroduced from 1:00am on Monday.

"Because of the school holidays and the New South Wales outbreak, the Sydney outbreak, we will be requiring those border declaration passes for everyone who crosses the border for the period of this New South Wales outbreak," Mr Miles said.

I've changed my mind and really can't see that state governments will give up this sort of thing even after the pandemic, especially with "border declaration passes" and the like. At that point the only solution would be a successful challenge in the high court. Even then the police can't help themselves as has been demonstrated in WA with the QR codes.

I really cannot see border closures and QR codes continuing after the pandemic. These are only emergency measures.

Can you honestly see American tourists checking in at venues? 😂

Agreed - the measures wont be continued - they cost too much for the states to run.

The measures in WA won't stay. They only have force while the state of emergency is in place. I believe Queensland is the same, the powers are declared under the emergency declaration.

It may just come into how long they can justify the emergency powers
