Australian state border restrictions

So the bloke I know that was on QF739 has just texted and said he has to spend the night in HQ and will be returned to SYD tomorrow. Today was the first time in 2 years he had been to Sydney and was in the airport transiting from DBO for just a few hours. He can see the numerous side though remarkably 🤣
I think the concern is that after more than a year, border closures are still being handled in a jackboot fashion. Most of the situations that are causing people grief are simply not necessary.
If short notice closures are going to be the way of the future, and as things are it's hard to see a path forward without them, they need to be handled with some acknowledgement of the impact on those caught up in them.

Another mad rush out of Sydney this afternoon. Our son and his family were going to the snow on Saturday for the school holidays.Checked with the lodge and as long as they were out of Sydney by 1600 and had negative covid tests they could come.fortunately our son is in a position to give himself time off.So a mad rush packing left at 1400.tested in Goulburn and staying there the extra 2 nights.

Absolutely horrendous the traffic heading out of Sydney.

Just announced on our TV news that QLD is open to giving an exemption to the fellow in Sydney HQ to visit his dying father.
But being Anastacia she couldn't help trying to put the blame on NSW saying they have to provide her with a written statement that they would agree to terminate his HQ early.
Gladys then said that from the first day NSW had said there was no impediment to him travelling to QLD from their health dept.

Gladys actually said that in this mornings press conference; and it was also mentioned when this was first publicised on The Project last Sunday. The only people stopping that couple from entering Qld are The Qld Premier and the Qld CHO who dont appear to want to give an exemption which is entirely within their power to give.

I keep you safe but I don't make the decisions...

🤔

And AP has locked out anyone from The Gong to Newcastle and the Blue Mts !!

Nope, I'm in Newcastle and we're still good. Lake Macquarie & Newcastle (and further north) are not part of the Central Coast - we are either Greater Newcastle or The Hunter (depending how you define it - usually the latter).

Please don’t use Greater Newcastle as Gladys and Brad will confuse the hell out of everyone if they try to define that one! Everyone has spent all day trying to determine the difference between metro and greater Sydney…

Kiss goodbye to another two days work but so pleased that AFL can come here.

Sydney domestic will basically be a ghost town. I wonder if the QF lounges will stay open....?
Hard to see how they will be able to. It appears other States are viewing transit through SYD as a Sydney visit. That's a killer for anyone in regional NSW. Their only hope are the various flights through MEL, assuming the Victorian restrictions continue to lift.

Well MEL should now be cleared IMO, given the terrific job that Danny's boys have done (let's see how the NSW Gold Standard plays out).

I know where I'd rather be right now.

Yet only 1/5 QF SYD-PER flights are cancelled tomorrow, and the one they cancelled was a 737 (still 2x 787s, a 737 and an A330 flying).

If Qantas are afraid of burning money by having the lounge open they sure aren't showing it. I think they'll only close the lounge if the Health regulations insist.
