Australian state border restrictions

I can’t see this just being a 5 day lockdown for Melbourne, tipping it goes possibly 12 days and then restrictions ease gradually

We have - once the vast majority have had a chance to be vaccinated.

As a "younger" person i completely disagree, I am not yet eligible to get vaccinated, once again the young generation should be the lambs to the slaughter? we have all made the sacrifices of lockdowns to protect the 60+, now they are vaccinated they want to open up?

Just a reminder you can actually access a vaccine via GP

I have tried.....they do not have enough supply for everyone requesting, the reality of supply to GPs is far different to what the Fed gov say.

This is the reply from my GP:

"Unfortunately, the Government have advised us that our supply from them will be limited . As we have limited numbers of Astra Zeneca Vaccine we will try and prioritise our elderly and at risk patients. If you are over 50 and in group 1a or 1b, please book an appointment online.

Additionally, we now have supplies of the Pfizer Vaccine, which are available for patients aged between 39- 59. Eligible patients must phone to book an appointment for this vaccine

As soon as we have more information to hand regarding when we will receive greater vaccine stocks, we will update our website and Facebook site."

The hospitals will become overwhelmed and there will be deaths from many other treatable conditions.
Sadly this is happening with border lockdowns anyway. Cancer patient friend. No, you need to go to Melbourne. No, can’t come here, have to go to Albury. Continue.
Mass vaccination is by far the best way to end the lockdowns and state border closures.
Yes, but it shouldn’t be killed by the bureaucracy that seems to accompany it. I don’t actually want to get anything from my GP, but it’s now become a game to see if the phone number they’ve been messaging ever actually answers. Informed consent translates to years of this…

Today my flight from SYD to CFS on 7 August was cancelled and QF recommended a flight approximately 6 hours later.

I clicked on the link for alternative flights and chose a different itinerary: SYD-MEL-CFS. Why fly direct when you can connect; right?

Oh wait....maybe not such a good idea.....
So this morning I received an email from QF to say that my MEL-CFS flight (arranged yesterday) has been cancelled and they have booked me on MEL-SYD-CFS. So instead of a direct SYD-CFS, they are going to throw in a free SYD-MEL return. Would be a good deal in normal times!

So what are the chances of being able to transit via MEL and SYD in 3 weeks time? I'ld be concerned except this is at the end of a longer trip that I can't see going ahead anyway but who knows what tomorrow will bring?

Yes there are still supply issues with both AZ and Pfizer to GP’s - especially in NSW where demand is super high right now. I feel for you, I’m sorry.

Can I suggest trying a couple more clinics? A friend of mine in Sydney had to book in with a GP 30 mins away from their house as all the other GP’s were booked out for AZ jabs until September…. Crazy times…

she is too busy packing to go to Japan ✈️

Well a lot of people don’t think she should be allowed to go…

More than 120,000 Australians have signed a petition calling for Queensland Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk to be denied the right to travel to Tokyo.

Looks like you are in Perth.

If you are over 40 (or 1B) there are Pfizer appointments availble in the next few days:

If you are under 40 and want AZ then:

You need to get over the hubris. In fact she has little choice. Why is the federal minster going and attending sports event? Why is the federal minister for environment plus staff in Europe to argue against listing of the reef as endangered when it’s been apparent for many years?

Murdock press article,

Olympic officials have warned Queensland premier Annastacia Palaszczuk that she has to turn up in Tokyo and press the case for a Brisbane 2032 Olympics.
News that Ms Palaszczuk was reconsidering her Japan trip because of Queensland’s dealings with the coronavirus pandemic has not been well received in Tokyo, where more than 100 International Olympic Committee members will vote whether to award the 2032 Games to Brisbane on July 21.

Ms Palaszczuk is part of a very small political presentation to the members, reassuring them of Queensland’s commitment to the Games, and importantly being able to meet them and discuss the advantages of a future Brisbane games.

The IOC members take great stock in diplomatic appearances and there is a very small risk that if she doesn’t appear the members may postpone a vote on the Brisbane candidature.

Australian chef de mission Ian Chesterman usually avoids political issues, but he stressed on Friday how important it was for Ms Palaszczuk to appear.”

I don't care for AP much either...but I also find the not going to Tokyo stuff petty.

As long as she goes, and attends only the minimum official engagements she is required to...fine.

Don't be Scomo. Don't use it is an excuse for sidetrips for personal pleasure. That would be unforgivable.

With the economic disaster of recent Olympics both Summer and Winter.

Plus the absolute disaster of Tokyo.. Delayed a year and now no crowds.

Why is Brisbane even pursuing this?
Oh I’m not in favour of us having the Olympics, but it’s part of the political cycle and AP won’t be in power when the event happens. But that’s not relevant. The politics of long term planning means she really has little choice.

I am in Vic. All I know is that I’ve waited two years for a holiday and had a special birthday with family on a luxury remote island north of Cairns leaving tomorrow. Not. A few weeks ago we had no cases and the various ‘football hubs’ all here for weeks accordingly. I’m vaccinated (which means nothing) and our holiday is gone. Sadly I could not follow the football hubs (as only footballers are considered essential workers for travel purposes). I give up.
I feel for you @MARTINE

i won’t go over old ground but I have a similar tale and you and I are certainly not the only ones to be feeling pretty helpless and frustrated right now.
