All up the experience is not as traumatic as I have expected

Really glad to hear that. I thought I had developed some pretty good resistance after maybe 100-something calls this past year or so, but the combination of a less-than-stellar TG F flight on Tuesday and the continuing LifeMiles shenanigans (*), with ten calls at various times of day yielding no tangible progress, have led me to cancel two SYD-BKK-TYO bookings and just burn my remaining LifeMiles.

(*) and probably more than anything, post-long-trip fatigue

SYD BKK SGN - all in J

40,000 miles + $USD66.10 [1 pax]

(No chance to ask for miles / cash slider changes)

Timeline:

Emailed screenshots - Emailed reply from LM with new booking ref: 2 days

Emailed reply from LM - Phone call for payment: 7 hours

Phone call (missed, I had to call back): 45 min

Would I do this again ?

50 / 50 esp. when I nominated a suitable time (after 12:00 am AEST) for them but they ignored it.

After small award experiment to BKK last year, have just successfully booked largest redemption to date.

One way SIN- NRT-SEA ANA first suites! Purchased miles last year 2 for 1, with this trip in mind. I am piecing together round the world ticket by points including AA points NA to europe and QF points europe to oz.

Question today is now that i have the lifemiles email confirming redemption with a reservation number, how do i go about confirming ticketing details with award airlines?

Do I have to wait for ticketing to take place between organizations, before using that reservation number to check with airline? (because nothing is coming up at the moment with that number!?) When or what do i panic if i cant see the reservation on the airline website?

thanking you in advance.

Also, booked MEL > SIN (!!) on SQ in J for July via telephone (with screenshot) 40,000 +$54.

thanks ketsuzei!!

sure enough it's there! cant "do anything" with it at ANA webstie - ie seat selection, contact details - keep getting errors, but will call ANA service centre.

thanks again

At the risk of diluting this thread, please remember that the foolproof evidence of a confirmed booking is the e ticket number which LM will email you soon (within 2 hrs in my cases).

Without those, everything is not as kosher as one would like to think.

Mod, feel free to move the Q & A to the LM general thread.

Against my better judgement I just booked 2pax TG F SYD - BKK for Dec 15 (120,000 + $USD190).

I expect it'll become J closer to the date when the fleet changes start to kick in. :-/ At least we're coming back from SIN in SG Suites :-)

Guvner can you please advise what was the last sector to book MEL-SIN?

I personally found BNE-SIN-CGK-KUL on several dates in Jul. First 2 legs in SQ and last one in LH. But if BNE-SIN or BNE to CGK yields nothing. Looks like you need to have another airline mixed in the itinerary.

actually not quite right unfortunately. Foolproof evidence is only if the operating (carrying airline) has a copy of the e-ticket in their system as payment.

While it doesn't happen often, it is possible to have an e-ticket that hasn't been communicated (pushed) to other airlines, and they can cancel your booking. It was a fairly regular (but still uncommon) issue with USDM bookings, and carrier like SQ would often cancel a resulting ticket.

It is a good idea to confirm one way or another that the operating airline has that ticket number (either on-line or call them and ask them to read it back).

OK, mine was easy. 2 pax in J on South African
PER-JNB-GRU in Dec15
and GRU-JNB-PER in Jan 16
170K miles each + $120 or so in taxes.
ANZ Black AMEX used for the booking, no issues. There are quite a few seats available between Perth and Brazil on SAA via JNB...ticketed within 20 minutes, I can see e-ticket numbers on Checkmytrip (though never got an email from Lifemiles saying the tickets have been issued but when I did my redemptions before it never worked either so I wasn't expecting them anyway). Seats selected via the EgyptAir website.
This trip will be in conjunction with a SYD-PER-SYD J award ticket on USDM (30K in J return per person) which I will book tomorrow when the return flight date becomes bookable with US Airways.
Considering how hard it is to get from Australia to South America, I'm very happy with the result. And I've finally got rid of all my Lifemiles!
