BKK-SYD early May

2 * F.

seat map currently showing as a 9 seater - would 1A, 1K be best for couple, or 2A, 2F? (there seems to only be one seat in row 2 middle)

My +1 and I have flown on this config a number of occasions and like others our preferred seats are 1A & 1K.

Thought I'd chuck in my 2 cents as well regarding couple's travelling on TG F.

Our preferred seats are 1A/K followed by 3E/F.

It's nice sitting in row 1 and not having anyone else in front of you. "Feels" like you have the whole cabin to yourself :)

We're slightly different as we prefer 3E/F over 1A/K purely because they are adjacent seats and we can chat whilst dining. 1A/K requires us to peep/talk across the small space, but those seats are definitely our second preference. I guess that is a good thing because if we were co-incidentally flying the same flight, we wouldn't be fighting over the same seats ;)

When keeping it simple it's very easy to book with LM and can still get good value.
Some recent online bookings:
SYD-BKK TG F 60k miles + $90US taxes.
SYD-ICN OZ J 40k miles + $90US taxes.
BKK-BNE TG J 40k miles + $40US taxes.

Indeed, that is nice.

It seems like TG is sending old F to SYD far more often than new F these days anyway

I've done a few flights with TG and on the SYD route is always the old 747 which I'd put behind Air Asia or QF A330 J but ahead of what OZ gives us. That said I think the food on TG is quite good, certainly better range than what I had on QF yesterday.

And prior to the IT glitch. Those good ole days when you don't have to worry about screenshots and LM customer service...

SYD-BKK-NRT with TG in F, 20000LM + A$734, Feb 2016. 747 and A380, plus 7:10 indulgence in Royal Orchid first class lounge in BKK. (or should I just visit BKK for a while?)

you mean 7 hours 10 mins?

Enough time to leave the airport, and too long to be usefully occupied in the TG F lounge (remember the TG F lounge 'experience' is a 45 minute massage... there's not a lot else. Standard food and some Moet.)

BKK-NRT are you flying on TG640?? Isn't that a 747 service (mind you who knows with TG!)

I'm trying to book the same route myself for about the same time next year... looks like a good way to burn some lifemiles!

I wouldn't leave the airport ,they have nice private lounge rooms with tv & computer & will bring your selected meals + drinks to you , also sleep rooms for that nap , also nice showers to get refreshed before you board again , did I mention more drinks .

Shoot! You are right. According to airline route it is 747. The e-ticket itinerary that LM sent me says A380. TG640 is currently on A380 maybe that's why it says so. In Jun it will be downgraded to 787 (the one I got TG'd, except the other way) until Oct where 747 will be operated.

But TG being TG, you never know. But for 50000 miles, even if you can get 1 segment in F is good enough.

Are you only going the one way with TG??

I can't find anything in the reverse direction... might have to dig into MR or QF points...

Any other options with lifemiles NRT-SYD(or BNE)??? Or maybe time for a quick status run through asia then ICN-SYD or BNE home...

My return is with QF direct NRT-BNE in J, 45000 Asia miles.

With Lifemiles, the other option is NRT-ICN-SYD. Should be wide open award spaces. Also don't forget checking HND, sometimes if you can't find seats with NRT, you often find it with HND.

BTW, I assume you know about the LM IT glitch right? If you search NRT-SYD/BNE, even if there is award space with TG it won't show.

some good ideas there...

yeah the glitch is such a pain! the lifemiles website was a frustratingly slow dinosaur before, but now we have to do twice as many searches!

Use United.com... that will give you the availability, then go to the LM site to screen shot the relevant sectors.

The only thing is that you theoretically need to know which flights were offered by LM before the glitch... but if you stick to connections of less than 8 hours it should be ok.

I think this is going to change my life! Thanks for the hot tip!
