re: Avianca "Life Miles" - New FF program in *A

If you have to travel on that specific date, your only other option will be to buy the flights leg by leg, which will cost more points obviously.

Or you book the FRA-BKK leg on points and BKK-HKT as a revenue ticket with TG direct. $212 in J, or $80 in Y.

re: Avianca "Life Miles" - New FF program in *A

wondering if anyone's managed to jag 3 * F on TG using LM? or even booking 2 * F and then hoping another opens up shortly after?

Also, BKK-SYD, any opinions on day vs overnight flight? are the menu offerings similar? (i.e. full service?)

thanks!

I've been told getting three seats on the same flight is quite rare in one booking - but I don't know if more seats open up on the same flight later, so that you could make another booking. Or in fact if there's any way to actually check the likelihood of that happening after you made the first booking for 2 pax.

I managed 3x TG F Syd-Bkk-Fra, which we flew in Sept. When seats were first released, I booked the 2 F seats that were available. I booked a J seat for the 3rd pax:shock:. A few weeks later, a 3rd F seat became available, so I booked that, and cancelled the J seat. I did notice that a few weeks prior to travel, a 4th F seat became available as well!!!

re: Avianca "Life Miles" - New FF program in *A

Does anyone know if TG FRA-BKK is usually operated by a 388 ?
I thought both FRA and CDG operated by a 388 but it seems only the latter and the former likely to get a 346 ?

Thai has 2 x daily's to Frankfurt. One on the 346 and one on the 388. They also have a daily to CDG on the 388.

re: Avianca "Life Miles" - New FF program in *A

Does anyone know if its possible to link two bookings if on the same carrier ?

For example say for sometime next year I wanna go to MLE and so on their next promo (say next month) I book SIN-MLE-SIN can I then book MEL-SIN-MEL at T-14 a few days before travel can I call SQ/AV to have them link the bookings so that they're both on the same PNR so that I can be protected, etc ?

Has anyone tried this ? Would SQ be the ones I'd need to contact to Avianca ?

Cheers

No it's not possible to put the bookings on the same PNR. The best they can do is make a note against the bookings, but it will offer no protection.

re: Avianca "Life Miles" - New FF program in *A

Earlier in the year I booked TG F BKK to SYD and it cost 65K miles

JUst doing some dummy bookings and see TG F SYD - OSA at just 50K

Wondering why the reduction in points, especially when OSA would be considered North Asia

Just the way they redrew their tables in the recent re-evaluation. It kinda makes sense I suppose - Nth Asia is closer to the USA. But they also made it 'closer' to SWP. A benefit I'm not complaining about :)

There was a recent change to Avianca's points costs for *A (and other?) flight redemptions. Some became more expensive and others cheaper. Some AU -> Asia routes are in the latter group.

mrpooky.

re: Avianca "Life Miles" - New FF program in *A

Lifemiles is a very interesting beast. There is no logic in the way it shows award spaces.

Sometimes there are award spaces that are obviously bookable separately, if you combine them together, it won't show as the itinerary becomes too "complicated" for LM, even tho it doesn't breach their routing rule (ie. no mix cabin, max layover 8 hrs). Sometimes it won't allow you to connect a flight on the "next day" even tho the layover is within 8 hrs. Eg, you arrive at 11pm and connecting flight departs at 1am the next day. But sometimes it will allow!

But I can't find the logic what is "complicated" for LM. The other day I was search for flights between SYD to NRT, it showed availability on Air Canada from SYD to NRT via YVR!! Seriously? Would anyone go to Tokyo via Vancouver? And it only costed 20000 miles oneway! (Coach of course) It would've been a cheap way to go to Canada by throwing away the YVR - NRT leg.

I try to take advantages of these. The other day I got myself business class PER to São Paulo Brazil for only 42500 miles oneway! The cheapest 20 hr business class flight I've ever redeemed!

Like other said, be flexible and buy cheap short haul tickets in economy if you can't combine the itinerary. If it won't show on the website, you can't book it! Simple as that. In my case, I'll just purchase a oneway ticket to Perth to connect my flight to São Paulo.

SWP, SthWestPacific?
What would be the most efficient way then to enter US?
What about to EU from OSA?

Sorry for questions, I am terminally stupid when it comes to Avianca.

Are you able to reveal the routing? Or PM me if you don't want to post here.

Good advice to think laterally VAG. Thanks.
Now any tips on how to crank the search engine into 2nd gear? ;)

re: Avianca "Life Miles" - New FF program in *A

The promo is over for LM...back to 85k per-gru

re: Avianca "Life Miles" - New FF program in *A

That would be PER-JNB-GRU on South African Airways but how you could get it for 42500 escapes me. It should be 85000 one way, not 42500 according to the new redemption chart
It must be a glitch in Avianca's booking engine or the author got confused and it's in economy

I wasn't sure if it was a glitch or promo. It lasted 24 hrs last Tues, all redemption to and fro South America was half price. My routing wasn't a complicated one, simply PER - JNB - GRU with SAA. (I could've grabbed SIN - IST - GRU with SQ and TK, but someone beat me to it) My point is play with LM a bit and try all Australian port, and nearby *A hub. I live in BNE and I am willing to fly to Perth just to grab the deal.

There is another secret hidden city trick that I read in one blog bot not many others. But I don't want to reveal it as it might kill it. I am happy to PM it to you but you might already know about it. Its not Guam or Russia.
