re: Avianca "Life Miles" - Questions and Discussion

Okay just an update, LM are okay to piece together my itinerary as it's not bookable online. I just wasted heaps of time cancelling my existing ticket and now waiting for them to call. Thank goodness for half day tomorrow as I got a feeling they will call at 2am. Will keep everyone posted. I just checked expert flyer and Sigh a340-600 is scheduled for the FRA-BKK-sector

Hooray! Another success story! Will they take miles and cash?

re: Avianca "Life Miles" - Questions and Discussion

Yup they asked what combination I wanted. They gave me a PNR and I think I have to call back and ticket.

Should I take it? F is F but old clunker A340-600? Should I just book J on A380?

I flew J on the A340 to LHR and it was a horrid experience. I swear the premium seat on AAX is more comfortable. The cambin felt quite cramped as well.

I suppose you need to decide if you'd prefer

a340f.jpg

or

a380j.jpg

That J seat looks cramped even though they say it's 74" seat pitch. Depending on you're height the F seat on the clunker might be the better option?

absolutely not!!!

F on the a346 far surpasses J on the a380. no comparison.

if you book row 2 window you get plenty of space.

Requesting a favour, can the next person that rings them, test SQ J avabaility over the next 14 days to see whether they can see things that we can't seem on LM but can on other things like ANA. Thanks

i wondered that too. but in order to make a booking they want three screenshots... one showing AU-xx_, then the connection. and a third one showing LM 'sold out' for the two sectors booked as a whole.

sq would fail the first screenshot. but I wonder if like UA they can actually see it?

Everyone has been telling me that any F is better than any J. By looking at the 340 F seats, I agree you have less privacy but you do have more space. You have more leg room and I believe you get a better sleep. Also you still get the same on-ground service which TG is well known for.

I guess is doesn't hurt to ask by calling them. If they can see it they will book it for you.

No! I have done both options. The F on 340-600 is fine IMHO. If nothing else you will appreciate the much smaller number of fellow travellers in F.

That's a HUGE call saying the AAX seats are better than the A340. I have also flown both and I'd rather not have pants-wedgy on the AAX and slum it on regular Thai First Class.

re: Avianca "Life Miles" - Questions and Discussion

I've done a few dozen searches and can find one lot of PER-LHR within the next 14 days getting out of Australia on SQ then connecting on Swiss from Singapore, but I can't find any J SQ flights ex-Singapore to anywhere else in the next 12 months (mainly searching Europe, US, NRT and GUM). There's a few options on other carriers out of Singapore but they are few and far between.

That's very irritating because I have been keeping an eye on T-14 PER-GUM to get to TKK (an actual legit GUM redemption!), ready to pull the trigger in early January but with suddenly no SQ out of Singapore that plan looks shot.

I am really hoping that SQ have just temporarily severely restricted their J award space due to their recent stuff up selling J for Y, but I am also very sadly wondering if this is exactly the same thing that happened a few years back when LM had full ex-AU SQ availability then cut it back to T-14.

It's a shame really, I'd already accepted that from PER I'd almost always need a positioning flight to Sinagpore for LM redemptions, and I can handle a 'short' 5 hour flight in discount Y to connect with SQ J LM redemptions. But if Singapore is no longer a viable hub then that throws a huge spanner in the works. Componded with the 'glitch' in booking flights with connections forcing you into the call centre hell, have they inadvertently made the whole thing more trouble than its worth?

I was comparing TG J on the A340, not F. I found the seat short, narrow and couldn't get any sleep on the flight.

I've had a good 4-5 hour sleep on AAX in their premium seat a few times now.

I don't think I was the only one who found the A340 seats uncomfortable. The amount of creaking as people were moving around was annoying, as was the noise of the electric motors in the seats.

The TG flights on the 747 were way and above more comfortable.

Ahh I'm sorry, my mistake. :( :( Having an error filled day :(

re: Avianca "Life Miles" - Questions and Discussion

I was so pissed off I couldn't swap from TG J with annoying connections to SQ J direct from MEL-SIN for 3 pax...but then I thought I'd check BA F and, what do you know, got SYD-SIN for 3 pax for 45K AA pp. Managed to even get return for myself while mum and dad go off to CMB from there. Now to book the MEL<->SYD connections. Thank you screwed up LM for broadening my horizons!

re: Avianca "Life Miles" - Questions and Discussion

Does anyone know if MS have better J seats in their 333s or 773s ?
Either of them lie-flat ?

Looking at flying SIN-DXB-CAI I remember this route used to run wholly on SQs own metal but now it seems they're codesharing the DXB-CAI leg to MS with two choices of aircraft the 333 or the 773.

Cheers

unless they have recently refurbished their 333s, the 773s have a better product. my folks flew with them and said the lie-flats were almost full flat. service to CAI was excellent... couldn't have had better crew. Flight back the crew were not so attentive.

re: Avianca "Life Miles" - Questions and Discussion

I'm finding some connections appearing with TG online. SYD-MUC in F and SYD-FRA in J are working ok.

re: Avianca "Life Miles" - Questions and Discussion

I was searching Aug/Sep/Oct. Availability was as good as ever
