re: Avianca "Life Miles" - Questions and Discussion

Has anyone discovered any airports in South America from which lifemiles will give a valid ticket to anywhere in Australia or NZ?

Don't care about cabin class or even airline, i'm just trying to find a valid route. Any ideas?

edit: None of that made any sense...just the painkillers talking. :-|

I have found Santiago in the past (to/from Sydney)

I can't get ANY searches to work on the site at the moment, all that comes up is an error page with the message: "The flight itinerary your are searching for is not available. If you opted for a preferred carrier you can try with another one or with our Smart Search option." Any ideas?

I have had that too. Perhaps the QF IT work experience folks are on holiday in South America.

I just tried and searches are working. (still seems to be limited search functionality, few if any connecting flights)

I found good PER-SAO J availability a couple of months ago, but since the searching 'glitch' (or indeed lockdown), you'll need all the luck you can get.

It's still there. Still good availability.

I've actually booked 3 of us in J on this route PER-JNB-GRU just before Xmas next year. Planning on spending about 3 weeks there.

At this stage there appears to be no availability coming back on the same route and no obvious way to force it. Plan B is to use VA points to fly back on Etihad (will need to be in Y i'm afraid) but wanted to think creatively about lifemiles options. There's almost nothing available coming back as far as I can tell in any class and on any route from South America to Australia.

I did find a little availability in United Y SCL but not much else. Still looking though.

No simple way with lifemiles. The closest you can get is fly TK to KUL, which still has plenty of availability, then fly cheaply on Air Asia (if you don't mind) back to Australia.

The other option is fly SQ GRU-BCN-SIN-AUS if you have enough KF miles.

I was lucky to have enough VA points to come back with EY!

re: Avianca "Life Miles" - Questions and Discussion

GRU-AUH-PER on EY using AA points does not exceed MPM. It's thens just a short domestic sector, possibly again with AA at 17.5k.

Does AA let you route South America 2 to South Pacific via Middle East? I think that might be a via the Pacific restriction with AA.

Has anyone done this? Can you confirm how many points it costs in practice? Extremely tempted to look at this one.

This will require two Awards as South America to South Pacific cannot route via Indian Sub Continent/Middle East.

The cost in miles would be 135K one way in J.

Welll.. that blows that option out of the water. Thanks.

re: Avianca "Life Miles" - Questions and Discussion

lol, sorry guys, thought this was the AA subforum...

No worries, it is a good thought, and good to discuss alternatives to LM at this point.

My statement was more hopeful, I'd love to see LM partner with EY, they'd prob somehow access Residence award space and we would all book it :D.

re: Avianca "Life Miles" - Questions and Discussion

I didn't end up going with the F flights after all. Going MXP-BKK-MEL in J on TG instead
