re: Avianca "Lifemiles" - Questions and Discussion

Unless there's a major hurry - I'd wait and see exactly what comes up on your credit card's on-line statement (as in actual billed charge, not authorisation).

LM sometimes sends out invoices which may include various fees which never get charged (like the star alliance booking fee)

you were right mel - got charged what i had expected initially - 2USD less actually - gotta say that USD is really hurting though!

re: Avianca "Lifemiles" - Questions and Discussion

I have a bit of an unusual problem.

I need to cancel a LM booking I have for next year.

Issue is I lost the credit card I made the booking with so have a new CB card number.

I don't have a record of what the old number is.

To be honest I'm not overly worried about the refund of money - it seems sometimes you get a refund and sometimes not, but slugged with the $50 fee. Not sure why they don't take the fee from the refund, but maybe their dodgy systems makes it an economic win.

Main interest is getting the points back.

Has anyone had a similar issue? How did you get the cancellation processed?

If you can live with dropping the $, I don't recall needing the old CC number to process the cancellation, just passenger details, flight details and the booking reference.

From memory these promos usually start at 3rd of the month Bogota time which means we should hear something by tomorrow. Fingers crossed !
But damn the weak AUD is not making things easy :(

Perhaps not quite the same thing but I cancelled a virgin reward flight and the taxes and fees were refunded to an AMEX I had cancelled. I simply had to wait until that payment had cleared, ring Amex and explain, they confirmed my cancelled card was in credit - and sent me a cheque.

re: Avianca "Lifemiles" - Questions and Discussion

I am assuming this is a typo on the Life Miles page today...LM 360,000 limit to buy inc promo for the calendar year

re: Avianca "Lifemiles" - Questions and Discussion

Is the system smart enough to know if you are attempting to buy more than your annual limit?

re: Avianca "Lifemiles" - Questions and Discussion

Me either, but I wouldn't mind another decent promo

A couple of days ago there was a 135% promo with LM. But it soon disappeared. Not sure if anyone noticed it.

for those wondering how much it'll be..
150.000 + 202.500 = 352.500 points will cost 4950 USD = 0.014 USD/mile which at today's XE rate is 0.020 AUD/mile

on the front page:

135% - 0.0140 USD/Mile
125% - 0.0146 USD/Mile
115% - 0.0153 USD/Mile
110% - 0.0157 USD/Mile
105% - 0.0161 USD/Mile

Not sure if I want to pay at least $3,333 USD for a max bonus. 125% isn't too bad.

This is designed for us Aussies. Now AUD is only ~ 69 cents now, at 135% it's about the same as 100% bonus back in last Dec in AUD terms. (When AUD was about 80 cents)

Agreed - its always good to know exactly what an offer will cost you.

Although most of the joy has gone from this program for Australians (I miss the good old days!), there are still a couple of sweet spots and I would argue, for Australians, that TG F to Nth Asia is now the best one. HKG is still easy to get and if you're travelling alone (or happy to split for the second flight) Japan offers 3 destinations TG fly F to. Both HKG, NRT and KIX also have some flights operated by A380s.

No, don't risk NRT! I was on A380 now on A330!

50K to North Asia is pretty decent indeed.

Still that exchange rate is a killer (and I've got the advantage of having points beyond my immediate needs)! Am sure this will appeal to some though.

Thanks for the heads up for this promo guys, I almost lost hope when there was no news after the 5th or 6th of the month.
