Ooooh tempting .... only downside is the forking out of around aud $5,000 to optimise this promotion - and i don't have any specific redemptions at this stage.

Indeed, I actually prefer the promos where you can buy just enough each time, nevertheless a very good promo!

In all fairness, compare to the old 2x1 promo, you can already enjoy that at 7000 miles, which is probably the minimum you'll need for any decent redemption. So overall it's not worse than what it was. The maximum number of miles you can buy has increase by more than double so in a way it is way better.

Shame that AUD is so poor now.

re: Avianca "Lifemiles" - Questions and Discussion

A friend owes me ~ USD1,100 so I might buy a few miles. Should get me 110% bonus so I'm happy.

re: Avianca "Lifemiles" - Questions and Discussion

I'm assuming no change in co-pay amounts? ie 15c per 1000. Might negate the need to buy huge numbers to take advantage of the 135% level.

True, though the way this is structured is to get you to buy those large amounts. Makes you wonder why.

This is true - could be end of co-pay, or the airline needing money. Although with fuel prices right down, wonder why they need the money?

According to Lucky's explanation, it's because their selling of miles aren't as successful as before. I doubt they will stop the co-payment because that is another way to generate more revenue. They sell you 360K miles, and still use co-payment on top of that, LM is effectively selling you 900K miles. Even at 1.5 cents each, that's $13,500 USD!

Selling miles obviously is a profit making business for them (otherwise why keep on doing it?). Now by making it tiered, they tempt you to buy more. Most of us have more than enough LM from previous promotions that we can't use up. What I am afraid of, is LM will do another tweak in their search engine, and we will have screenshot MKII.

re: Avianca "Lifemiles" - Questions and Discussion

Whilst the connecting itineraries sound like they've largely dried up, I'm finding great uses for LM having moved to Canada. Last night I booked 3 seats YYZ to YVR return on Air Canada's international J product for a total outlay (miles + cash) of $1119 - ordinary Y return per person would have been $825. Very happy to pay a premium of ~$300 pp for a combined 9+ hours of flying :-)

I'm sure I got an even better deal when I did YYZ-LAX return in J in July (albeit only AC's international business product on one leg).

Thanks - I missed that in Lucky's article.

Wonder why the selling of miles is less successful! Errr... try fixing your award engine!

Yeah, and give us SQ back, and stop blocking LH F!

No doubt the rising USD has impact too.

re: Avianca "Lifemiles" - Questions and Discussion

Personally I found the SQ/TG seats chalk and cheese! SQ's are actually pretty comfortable - almost flat. They're the only angled lie-flats I've been on that I thought 'wow, and airline can do these ok'.

SQ being like first class was referring to the service, food and drinks. TG J is pretty much economy meals on crockery, and their business class lounges are pretty much economy lounges. SQ is a marked step up. (Although TG wins on mixing martinis.)

I concur that. I was fortunate to fly TG on their 77W with staggered seats recently, but service is nowhere near SQ level, even F service is inferior to SQ J.

Food wise I wouldn't call it economy, it is slightly better, but again not up to SQ level.

Seatwise, even though its also angle flat, I would say SQ's angle is better than TG angle. Of course I haven't tried TG's angle yet, but I heard that it is the same as OZ's angled seat, which I have experienced as well.

TG only wins by having an amenity kit.

Seriously, if TG does not improve their product, I don't see how it can compete with SQ and CX in the region.

Always possible but I doubt it. We know why they did the original change (to close some loopholes) but many would suggest they went a fair way too far. The screenshot method would have to be way more labour intensive on their own staff, self service is regarded by most industries as the way to go.

So I'd be fairly confident the customer service staff are kicking up a fair bit of a stink about the amount of extra work forced on them by the online engine not showing flights that are genuinely allowable. And this would be fairly high on their list of priorities to get fixed or at least fixed to some significant degree - no doubt there are some outliers it would be hard to automate, OZ to Europe does not fall into that category, there is no good reason these don't show.
