re: Avianca "Lifemiles" - Questions and Discussion

Have just sent in an email for my first screenshot booking for a HND-BKK-MEL. Hopefully goes smoothly.

I did a screenshot MEL-BKK-CAN on Saturday just gone, they called me and gave me 2 hours to pay taxes etc. I leave tonight.

That's handy to know. Only issue is the miles we are using are from my old man's account. All surnames are the same as account holder. What happens if you miss the phone call? Do they email you back?

Don't miss the phone call. :)

Seriously though, if they don't give you the email with PNR it can be tricky to get the right people on the line. They may ask to speak to the old man as the account holder but I am sure you can sort out that out no problem.

I rang thai airways this morning and confirmed there was a ticket number against the booking just in case.

Ive been out of the loop with life miles this year. Whats the latest with access to SQ J?

Had an email this morning saying the request has to come from my old man so have got him to forward on the original email and give me authorisation!

Gday

From my experience: long haul SQ J is gone. Intra Asia SQ J is still there.

Consistency is not there strong point hey! Here's hoping it works out.

re: Avianca "Lifemiles" - Questions and Discussion

So my parents have FINALLY decided they would like to try flying J for once in their lives after listening to me bang on about how good it is for years. I'm planning to book them LMs one way from ADL to LHR. ADL is tricky because SQ and NZ are the only *A carriers that fly there and it sounds like SQ J isn't available anyway. What's your suggestion for the best route for a first time J? They can easily fly out of MEL or SYD.
The only real requirements are:
- minimal connections/stuffing around (ie as direct as possible); and
- as best an experience as possible (Dad still says 'it's not worth the extra money).

I'm thinking either NH all the way or TG to BKK then BR BKK-LHR?

Thanks

Connecting to BR in BKK would be good. TG will have their new A350s from MEL starting 1 Jul and 1 Aug... as long as you don't get TG'ed!

re: Avianca "Lifemiles" - Questions and Discussion

When I've looked for BR J BKK<>LHR I'm pretty sure it only showed up in a T-14 window. I think first time J'ers would be more than happy to continue on TG though!

With flat bed->flat bed TG might not be such a bad option these days. Plus they supposedly have their new a la carte hawker menu. Seem to be some improvements.

re: Avianca "Lifemiles" - Questions and Discussion

Hey team, I have been emailed (forwarded on by my father) the reservation I requested by screenshot which is currently on hold until 9:00pm Colombian time on the 12th of May. At the bottom of the itinerary it says I have to call the Avianca call centre in Colombia to pay for the reservation. Have tried a search on this thread but can't seem to find the best number to call?

re: Avianca "Lifemiles" - Questions and Discussion

Okay I got the right number +57 4 444 3434, spent about 25 minutes on the phone and was then told the credit card team were having dinner so could I call back in an hours time!

re: Avianca "Lifemiles" - Questions and Discussion

Okay, 40 minutes on the phone this time and a terrible connection, crackly and nearly impossible to hear, but all sorted.

34k miles + USD$690 in miles buy up + USD$82.60 in taxes + USD$50 in booking fees.

2 passengers, business class.
TG HND-BKK 10:45-15:50
Approx 16 hour layover to have dinner and stay with family and then the following day:
TG BKK-MEL 08:10-21:20

So a successful screen shot redemption!

Have you considered AA miles/redemptions?
with the bonus miles campaign now on you could do J returns from ADL>LHR (cheaper if avoid flying direct to UK, maybe CDG?) for about 4k each. circa half the revenue ticket price.

You'd be looking at about A$4.5k minimum I'd say...it does start to get to the point where status earning paid fares can be not that much more. Example business fare I just pulled up for ADL<>CDG on CX,AF and SQ was $5.7k. Although clearly $1.2k is not insignificant!

Yep unfortunately we aren't in the days of $AU:$US 1:1, it was pretty much a no brainer back then to buy tickets through the purchase of points. On LM business class tickets to Asia return were about $1200!, them were the days.

I'm thinking LMs one way, AA the other. But as bc said, AA is significantly more expensive than LMs

You can get business fares on VN between MEL and Europe for slightly less than the cost of buying AA miles - very low $4ks! Between Vietnam and EU on 789 or A350 with decent hard product at least.
