re: Avianca "Life Miles" - New FF program in *A

Can you redeem your LifeMiles for a ticket in someone else's name? If so, are there restrictions on this?

No, I do not intend to start a LM syndicate, unlike some infamously notable members on these frequent flyer forums...

I don't believe there are any restrictions, Markis10JR flew me home in Feb, bugger put me on a 0130 departure so I ended up having the Lobster for breakfast  .

Woohoo!

I can now top up my account - 37,000 + 37,000. Now I wish I hadn't been so generous and used my points to book flights to MLE for son and his girlfriend:(.
+1 already has 150,000.

re: Avianca "Life Miles" - New FF program in *A

I have 1 account, my mother (now) has 1 account and +1 has 1 account...could buy up to 3 lots of 150K...

You can book in someone else's name but my mum actually will be using the points herself. A few months back, I casually mentioned that I and +1 were thinking of going to Russia next year (Moscow and St Petersburg), and my mother INSISTED we take her:shock:...I tried to say that I don't think she should leave dad (who is not interested in going to Russia) alone at home but he said he didn't care...I tried every other excuse to dissuade her from coming eg she may not like the food, Moscow is expensive etc but she wouldn't budge:evil:

..and finding 3x award seats on one flight is a royal PITA too!

Depends on the airline, otherwise 2x for you and single for your Mum. :)

Nah, couldn't possibly do that.

So exchange rate has gone down, cost of miles has increased from $30 and the sweet spot of miles use has gone from 40% to around 47% . Tried a dummy ticket to CDG in F and there were over $900 in taxes added too - ouch!

In t and c's

Each package of 1,000 miles costs USD 35, 40, including all taxes applicable to each country *.

Said the same thing last time, I'm pretty sure. Anyway, I've already bought some, and can assure you they only cost $30.

That's a slight relief then especially with the A$ on the slide again

It's covered by the asterisk, I can't remember precisely how, but presumably Australia is not their main target audience:

* The price may be lower depending on the country of residence registered in the members account in the database.

Not sure where you are getting these figures. A dummy booking for F (Thai) on 12th Feb 2014 (a random date), one way shows tax as $US75.14 & redemption fee of $US25

Guys just to be 100% sure of what will happen and what to expect after booking, I just wanted to know the following;

What happens after I book a redemption online - will I get some sort of confirmation emailed to me ? By who ? Avianca ? Or the airline (SQ, TG, etc)?
How long after placing the booking will the e-ticket be issued by the airline on which I have booked the flights ? How long does this take ? i.e., hours after booking or more like days ?
Can I cancel a booking online or do I have to ring them ?

If I could get some answers from those who've booked awards on avianca before that would be much appreciated.

Cheers.

(And yes I have read this whole thread and the entire main FT thread)

re: Avianca "Life Miles" - New FF program in *A

You will get an email from Lifemiles with your itinerary and their 6 digit confirmation code. The tickets I booked online only took a couple of hours to be ticketed, a couple were instant. The one over the phone took a couple of days. You should also be able to look your itinerary up on checkmytrip.com which will show the eticket number if it has been ticketed.

I would still follow up with the carriers you are flying to get their confirmation codes and confirm ticketing though.

Do let your bank know a transaction from Central America will be occurring, there have been issues with redemptions where the bank has said no but the points are taken, takes a while to sort.
