re: Avianca "Life Miles" - New FF program in *A

Yes, but as you said, you will have to buy at 3 cents, and then the transfers at 1.5 cents will kick in, so your average cost will be higher than 1.5 cents if you were just trasnsfering old miles

However far you go your total cost is $15 more in total...it's barely worth considering if you want to spend a lot.

re: Avianca "Life Miles" - New FF program in *A

Hmmm this, USDM, Alaskan, all of the above, or another better unexpected AA offer (extremely unlikely). If only to have access to cash like some of the members of FT with their galavanting TR's!

Some of those members of FT with super gallivanting TRs don't necessarily have a huge amount of cash. But they do apply for and end up having a huge access to credit line... of which most ends up unused.

Whats the benefit of this share offer though? Just getting your miles to someone elses account? They don't receive any bonus miles do they?

re: Avianca "Life Miles" - New FF program in *A

The thing that worries me with LM is that they like to change redemption rates without notice.

I'm sure I'm not alone in that having plenty of miles, just not the time to go away!

re: Avianca "Life Miles" - New FF program in *A

However far you go your total cost is $15 more in total...it's barely worth considering if you want to spend a lot.

Say you want to do a 87,500 mile redemption. At the point of redemption you can opt for miles + cash, in this case spending $690 USD will save 46,000 miles (@1.5c per miles), which means you need to purchase 41,500 miles - so 20,750 @3c, transfer gets another 20,[email protected]. So overall the cost of that 87,500 mile redemption (one way to Europe business class) is $1623 USD (or about 1.86c/mile). If the T&C allow transfers back and forth, this cost will come down.

re: Avianca "Life Miles" - New FF program in *A

Being totally lazy and not having received the email can I open a new account for a family member and share 150K of my miles with them giving them 300K?
If so, what is the $ cost to me for this transaction?
Will this count as activity on the LifeMiles Account giving the miles a 2 year expiry?

re: Avianca "Life Miles" - New FF program in *A

Cheers :)
Two new accounts it is then ;)

In the past T&Cs used to say that the account had to be opened prior to the promo starting, however the condition isn't there any more so possibly it's no longer applicable?

On the actual transfer page, note the transfer limit -

A lot of these share mile promotions are a bit of a gimmick. (Not to say the ones with transfer bonuses, such as US and LM are.)

People forget that they can book outright awards for others or may want to consolidate so they can book a single award with their meager balances, etc.

So is that transfer limit new?? Or was it with the buy promos you could buy 75,000 to get 75,000 bonus to max 150,000 miles?? And so is the share limit less...

And can you use the share limit and the buy limit for a max of 125,000 + bonus 125,000 per year??

I'll probably be transferring some points in the next week or so, so I'm not sure on the transfer limit at the moment. I noticed the contradiction on the website where it also refers to a 75,000 transfer limit -

Would have to check but I thought last year it was a 75K + 75K limit?

it is USD$17.7 per 1000 miles transferred once you include the taxes, I think which works out at USD$0.017c per mile which is a little more than the USD$0.015c per mile when you buy lifemiles with the double miles promo.

Terms and Conditions

  • This promotion is available at LifeMiles.com, Avianca’s Information Centers and Call Center except for Venezuela where is only available through LifeMiles.com
  • This promotion applies between March 4[SUP]th[/SUP] and March 17[SUP]th[/SUP], 2014, as the last date of transfer
  • Minimum transfer miles: 1,000
  • Maximum transfer miles: 75,000
  • The miles must be transferred in multiples of 1,000
  • Transfer fee for each block of 1,000 LifeMiles: USD $17.70 including local taxes

There are no taxes to pay unless you live in certain South American countries.

re: Avianca "Life Miles" - New FF program in *A

I just did 5 quick fire points transfers. $75k is the limit which gave me 150,000 points. Good to see that 28degree card fraud department rung me within the hour to see if it was all legit. Big tick for them. Also a big thanks for 'Robd "for the best equation and solution on transferring points.
Would have to check but I thought last year it was a 75K + 75K limit?
