re: Avianca "Life Miles" - New FF program in *A

Thanks for the quick reply markis! :)

No worries, Avianca have a promo on average every two months with the odd exception, I bet as we get closer to the year ending many airlines will be keen to pump up the revenue.

just wanted to confirm that you can't book a mixed class fare even when there isn't say a first class on one of the legs? presumably only option is to split the ticket into 2 separate legs and cough up twice?

That's correct

There seems to be an error on the LM search page the last couple of hours - has anyone else noticed this ?

The lifemiles site is down for maintenance here at the moment.

Hold on...I'll get on the hot line to their IT people and ask!

Lol i meant as in if there was some sort of precedent so from past experiences we could gauge their approx down times for maintenence.
But all good lol

They said - cuánto tiempo es un pedazo de cuerda?

re: Avianca "Life Miles" - New FF program in *A

Apparently the miles+money is now capped to 1.5 cent per miles, so it's never going to be cheaper to do miles+money redemption. The only advantage that gives is that you use less miles (remember the 150k buy limit) and perhaps it's more useful when double miles offer is not in effect.

I was about to take on this offer (miles purchase 100% bonus) but I couldn't work out easily how many miles to pre-buy and how many miles to use. So I wrote a tool to automatically find the optimum solutions :D Feel free to try and use it to your advantage. If you happen to find a mistake with the tool, let me know so I can fix it.

Is there any way to force the system to show you more options? Eg syd-hkg brings up Thai and asiana, however eg united.com shows saver availability on SQ.

on a side note- is searching for rewards really clunky (having to redo whole search if wanting to compare dates?) or am I missing something?

cheers.

Its clunky, but sometimes that's good ;)

you can choose airlines or departure times from the drop down boxes... that can sometimes alter the mix of results.

Like the HUACA lucky dip with USDM, changing the search terms enough times can bring up all sorts of unexpected results. My advice would be if something unexpectedly good comes up, book it there and then. You may not see it again!

Ex Melbourne it's easy to do that. Search for First class instead of business...as there is none available ever you will always get the full week result view, then switch the tab to Business class and you can compare days easily. It would probably often also work ex SYD but because e.g. SYD-HKG is offered in F by TG you might often get a hit and have to change dates with a new search.

ok this could be really dumb -i mean more, say i select monday and see the flights on monday, how do i go back to the week view and choose tuesday offerings instead? i've found i have to do a new search and there doesn't seem to be a 'back' button on the webpage. (back button on the browser seems to be hit and miss.)

I find the browser back button works just fine for that purpose.

Are you sure there's no F from MEL ?
I'm pretty sure I've seen MEL-LAX on UA in F ?
