Very interesting to hear that they still hold a grudge over the multi-payments.
Considering how long it took them to identify the issue last time, I didn't think their systems would be capable of remembering.
I had a credit card and another transaction account with BW before the Qantas transaction account and have retained those and are still using them to this day without any issue. It seems contradictory to let us keep existing accounts but still not let any new accounts be opened 3 years later.
Applied yesterday for world card. Perfect timing. Current card needs recycling for more bonus points. OS holiday planned in few months (no foreign transaction fees). Last had BW CC in February 2017, so shouldn't be an issue with the exclusion period. Also bank with BW, so can't see them rejecting me. $6K is quite high compared to other CC's but no issues for me personally. I don't like the 44days interest free period though. 55 is far better. But its only for a few months.
I never had the Qantas FF earning bank account, just a mortgage and mortgage offset account, so don't think I will get caught up in that issue. But if they reject my application, they'll be losing all my business. I can hold a grudge too.Keep us updated, are you one of many transaction account holders from the past?
I've yet to see any evidence (here or on OZBargain) of an actual rejection for this reason, more that people have been told they will be rejected. Of course its not always clear as to the reasons for a decline!
When I applied for the BW Qantas Platinum card a few years ago (before the recent credit card reforms), they asked me to provide pay slips, copies of ALL my other credit card statements and a few other things so it wasn't so straight forward. They only gave me a very modest 8K limit but back in the days when it was allowed, they kept giving me limit increases and now my limit is more than 3x the initial one They then eventually Invited me to upgrade to the World card. This is my "go to card" for foreign currency purchases as it is fee free and I also get some modest Qf points as well.
No value on keeping the dragon CC for ATO payments?I'm in the same boat as you @jeza, but I'm going to wait until St George gives me my annual bonus points, cancel and apply for this one. I only have about 5 more days to wait until then, so I'll be able to give some feedback soon on the application process.

Just applied and got an instant note (below) before even going through the verification process. Letter mentioned to call them and they said something in the application triggered it. It certainly could not have been income/assets/spending or liabilities unless I stuffed up an extra zero somewhere, but it could have been because I entered that I was an existing customer and entered my PAN even though I don't have an open account.
I did recently close a Bankwest Platinum Zero no fee card I used for O/S spend and did have the Transaction Account that gave all the points, but I don't think I was in the naughty corner with BW like others above have mentioned, but you never know.
They are having a sales rep call me tomorrow. See what happens but I suspect it is recent accounts with them (even though Ts and Cs don't exclude this).
Thanks for applying
We can't offer you a credit card right now.
You'll receive a letter confirming this soon.
Council rates will prob be a no (they specifically excluded ‘council rates and fees’ a while back), rego I don’t know, I’ve had points on VicRoads rego from other providers but not Bankwest, public transport topups will probably be fine.It took over 2 weeks for my card to be approved. I didn’t need to provide the identification as I have other BW accounts.
Charges not eligible for points or contribute to the minimum spend to get the bonus include “Government Charges”. Does anyone know if this includes things like Council Rates, Car Rego and public transport card topups?
