Big development! Qantas seat selection!

I still have bookings with domestic segments to international connections that have the seats I selected during that day when the initial implementation of international seat-selections went live.

For these I see the number of the selected seats but cannot change them.

On another booking which had domestic connections but I could not access online during that day it simply shows "forward".

Interestingly, one flight was originally on a 763 for a domestic segment and I had 24F - this has now changed to a 73H and 5C has been allocated.

One more thing - you need to be PS (, oneworld RUBY) or better to use this facility - QP NB appear not to qualify.

To what sort of seat "quality" did you have access?
EF seat map show lots of "Blocked" seats:

And QF is showing me this seat map:

Will be interesting to see how this changes when OLCI opens.

NM, I'm guessing your flight is within the next few days (and is lightly loaded).

While I have noticed a larger proportion of Q-blocked seats on E/F since the implementation of International seat selection, those images are indicative of how the seat maps look in the days leading up to the flight.

Here's an E/F seat map for a flight I have in September:

There is one point I'm uncertain of in relation to this online seat selection system. Previously, AFAIK, anyone could, within a set of parameters/restrictions, ring QF and pre-allocate seats for international flights, regardless of status, FFP membership etc. All they needed was a ticket.

Now that QF has introduced online seat selection (with it's associated restrictions regarding whom can view/select what) for PS upwards, and I suppose F/J pax (?, not sure), is the ability still there for people without status or even FFP membership to ring QF and pre-allocate seats as per before introduction of the new online seat selection system?

I believe all the pre-existing methods are still in place.

Irrespective of your ability to choose particular seats or not, I have to say that 388 beast in whY looks jolly uninviting...

It's actually not that bad - cabins start at rows 50, 66 and 79 so it gets broken up.

I have sat in 66C and 80A which are both near the front of their respective cabins - I have 80A and 80K upcoming.

We all know your taste Simongr and only Fclass will do ;) But yeah as an economy flyer, that 388 seat map is indeed scary looking with sooo many seats!

Glad my one and only time (to date) on the 388 was in J

Based on your recent Op-upped success, I predict you won't be sitting in 80A / K for this trip - but on the upper deck, and in seat 11A

*knock wood*

I almost had a panic attack when I was looking for serfty's pre-allocated seat and then seeing how far back it was in WHY the cabin.

I am hoping Singapore Ailines upper deck WHY is much friendlier. :-|

I can tell you that QF 388 Upperdeck J is certainly much friendlier ...

Correct. No chance of an op-up on this one!

And the return looks lite too, but have wait-listed for upgrade due to being overnight flight .

I just had my first experience using this on SYD-LAX in October and I like the seat selection function.

Unfortunately this was an 'unplanned trip so we can only afford to go economy - but for $1400 return each we can't complain considering we paid $3,700 each last December/January ... but the high priced fare did qualify us for an upgrade to business so was a great first trip on the A380.

DH and I booked seperately so he has the window and I have the aisle in the row on both legs. I really hope that no one selects the middle seat, but I guess they should be happy to move into the aisle or window if it came to that.

We are on an A380 both ways in row 63 on the way up and 60 on the way back - do you think we should select further towards the back of the plane to reduce the risk of someone selecting a middle seat in the front section of economy?

Hi - apologies in advance if this sounds harsh.

My first suggestion if you want to be guaranteed seating together is to choose (if possible) some of the row 80ish 2 seats.

Now a couple of questions re your current strategy - you admit that you have chosen a forward aisle+window in the hope that the middle seat wont be taken. If it is and you dont want to be split - what will you offer the middle seat person? The window which means they are blocked in by two people rather one person or the aisle - in which case you will be blocked in.

Again - I suggest taking either a two seat right at the back or if you want to improve your chances of snagging a 3 for the price of 2 seat then dont pick thr furthest forward that you can....

From experience each time I've used OLCI after this development and chose an exit row seat, at the boarding gate my boarding pass is rejected... and I'm then verified if I'm suitable to sit at the exit. Just means boarding pass given to ground staff for verification and suitability. No biggie but my mate got anoyed at the 20sec delay encountered.

Hi everyone,

I just made PS, ad was excited to be able to make seat selections online.

I've got a flight coming up on 2/9 MEL-BNE.

When i try to access my booking on QF website, it givs me an option to do "seat selection".

So far so good.

But then when i click on it, it gives me this:

Your flight is not eligible for seat selection however you can nominate aisle or window seat preference.

Anybody have any idea why?

Seat selection is currently only available for international flights. For Domestic, you just get the "aisle/window" choice.
