Big development! Qantas seat selection!

So far so good.

But then when i click on it, it gives me this:

Your flight is not eligible for seat selection however you can nominate aisle or window seat preference.

Anybody have any idea why?

BenHadi

Let me guess.... It is a Domestic flight?

Yes that is true - although there is a specific answer to the question 2 posts above the question as to whether it works for domestic flights:

So i take it that it doesn't work for domestic flights?

Can you select seats on a Trans-Tasman flight then?

I don't have one coming up in MMB, but might be handy to know.

Yes, I know Trans-Tasman is international, but thought I'd just double check, because Trans-Tasman flights can tend to be a bit of a hybrid of rules compared to run-of-the-mill QF AU domestic and other international flights.

That is one guess.

I was going to guess it's because:

Though you can get this from an International that is over 80% booked. The following is from my MEL-LAX booking next month.
"Your flight is not eligible for seat selection however you can nominate aisle or window seat preference."

straitman, you might like to call qantas and request seating.

e.g. On 388's 79D is not selectable online as it is one of the 50 or so designated "accessible" seats (These are mainly the D seats down the aisle).

You can generally allocate it by calling. My NB B-I-L was able to do so for a flight next year after taking my advice.

Yes, eligible QFF members can select seats online for TT flights. I currently have 5 TT QF flights booked over the next 6 months and can select seats on all.

Dunno about Hybrid rules or any of that; maybe "Domestic" configurations with International style service. (Although they have removed the Duty Free sales from the 737's)

I did call and they say both the flights are over 80% full so they won't/can't allocate.

What does the 'C' after the Class code mean:?:

It means that fare bucket is closed. Tis fair to suggest that cattle class is packed to the rafters for both those flights.
So hopefully my PE seat will be upgraded to business and then someone else can have my PE seat. :D

Oops:!: Under risk of a painful death from SHMBO I should say 'hopefully our PE seats will be upgraded to business and then someone else can have our PE seats.' :D

Presumably you have E/F so you would know available PE seats on MEL-LAX are 34D/E/F/G and Skybeds 29A/B/D/E/F.

For LAX-MEL it's similar with PE seating 34D/E/F/G & 35B with skybeds 29A/B/E/J/K & 30A/D/K.

Yes, except for QF26 on certain date(s) in September!

I have 4 x TT flights lined up this year and I have selected seating online on 3 of them. For the fourth, just not possible. I get the ""Your flight is not eligible for seat selection however you can nominate aisle or window seat preference." - and I can't even do that!

This occurred from the day the booking was made, 2 to 3 months out from the flight, and availability appeared fine at the time.

Operators at QF (I've rung several times) are somewhat flummoxed and say "even we can't see or allocate seats on that flight, guess you'll just have to try at check-in"

I'm very curious to see if this changes prior to flight day.

Is QF156 operating the day in Question?

Not that I can see...just QF132 (early morning), QF26 (middle of day) and QF134 (evening).

Interested to note that the Red-e-Deal is now $281  (with a "Hurry" to boot), and seatcounter shows:

BCDIJKLMNOQSVY
96607947000029

So things now appear to filling up...but as I said there was far more availability (and I got a decent price), back when I booked it (which was in fact late July, so about 2 months prior).

And just to get a little weirder, when I check the weekly AKL-MEL timetable (with my date in the middle) all QF26s are shown as operated by QF (red triangle), and all others show as operated by Jetconnect for QF - QF codeshare (green square). I suppose something to do with QF26 origianting in LAX, even though it's an aircraft change and all.

All dates after mine, I'm able to hover over the symbol, click and get the flight details. My date and all prior ones (in the week displayed), I am unable to 'click' the symbol!

The disappointing thing for me is that the res agents (the ones I've spoken to, anyway) seem to be as much in the dark as Joe Public. They should be armed with enough info to give a plausible (and true) explanation of what's going on.
