Probably, and I realise it says FROM but I havn't seen flights to NYC that cheap in a while.

A quick check on bestflights shows that both UA and Delta are offering fares for $1568 although the route is BNE ->SYD/MEL -> LAX -> NYC

I think it is V Australia BNE-LAX and then Delta or Virgin America LAX-NYC. Both Delta and V Australia have fares for that much through their websites on those dates.
